Course Curriculum Overview

4

the program emphasizes core economic theories , mathematical techniques, and statistical methods. the inclusion of maths, stats, and econometrics helps in developing analytical and problem - solving skills, all of which are important for real world. there is exposure to various branches of economics. the curriculum integrates data analysis, evaluation, and case studies, which are useful in careers in academia, corporate sector, banking, etc. According to me the places to improve include: Update the curriculum with emerging topics Professors being a little more student friendly more practical exposure more research opportunities there are semester wise exams and due to covid we had to cover a lot in less time than usual. It is a difficult course but doable.

The detailed fees structure For B.Sc Economics / Mathematics (Hons) is as follows: Rs. 1500 per semester For other B.Sc students : Rs. 1125 per semester For B.A. students: Rs. 1100 per semester For M.A. students: Rs.1260 per semester For MSc students: Rs. 1335 per semester All these are total fees per semester including Examination Fees which range from Rs.200 - Rs.375 and Tuition Fees ranging from Rs.900 - Rs.960 All these fees were same for all categories of people.

There is a projector in each classrom and also computer labs. There are various student led social groups and clubs but most of them are politically leaned.

Admission

I had applied to and got confirmation from Xaviers College and Jadavpur University. I chose to go to Presidency Due to to its heritage and strong economics department and also due to its affordability. There is a competitive peer group and the location is a plus point. The eligibility reuires minimum of 60% in 10+2 for General category and 55% for SC/OBC/ST/PWD Maths has to be a mandatory subject ( for B,Sc Economics) THey accept admission through PUBDET though mine was direct admission due to COVID 19. The process of admission is to register for PUBDET then give the xam and then wait for merit list and finally if selected go for document verification. The cutoff ranges usually from 150 - 250.

Faculty

3

the faculty to student ratio is like 7:40 The faculties are approachable for academic queries. I really liked to study under Professor Mousumi Dutta in the Economics department. I liked her teaching because it was very systematic and easy to understand. I did not like a certain professor, I would not like to name him/her. There are semester wise exams as well as 2 small internal exams every semester and mid sem exams. In our batch there were a handful of students who failed certain semesters as it was quite difficult to pass these exams.

Night Life

4

The whole area itslef is not so safe. Inside the campus there is full safety but the college street area during night is preferabbly not safe for girls or boys to roam around alone at night. The hostel is just oustside the campus and the canteen is reallly good. There is no gym but there is a basketball court and volleyball court and a badminton room and table tennis room, as well as carrom. The boys hostel is close to the campus whereas the girls hostel is little far but the university provides bus services from girls to college and vice versa and schedules timings. the boys hostel has no time limit to enter or exit, but just an attendance register. Th girls hostel closes at around 8 to 10 pm at night and opens in the morning. The top places to hangout inside the college is the place called The Tank. And there were multiple places to eat and chill outside the college.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I think I'm a curious student. Integrating biology with technology is interesting Recently we are studying animal tissue culture plant tissue culture which is superb. Generating a plan from a single cell is truly something interesting. I was drawn to genetics and biotechnology application . This curriculum prepares a student for research and industrial purpose . We get to do lab experiments project work under professors. In my opinion improvement can be done by industrial visits Exams take place at the end of each semester and we have mid sems in between

However big scale IT companies come here and students of Computer science Hons have had placements worth 6-10 lakhs easily. My plans are to appear for the job interviews but not taking any as I want to study more.

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

Placement Experience:

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.

The course theory helps us gain a solid understanding of the subject matter. The course also includes practical classes in the sound labs, editing labs and we will learn to use a camera, as one of the things we will have to do in this course is make films of our own.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I would rate the course curriculum in terms of relevance as moderately relevant. My decision to choose this course was primarily influenced by its research learning facility and practical based learning. The curriculum helps each individual to prepare for further comepetitive exams and expanding their jobs option with full and profound knowledge of data based works and computer skills. To enhance the course curriculum and teaching methods , I would suggests dedicating deep learning with lots of real life examples, updating the syllabus to recent advancements Providing recorded lectures would be of so much help and providing more opportunities for students to present their work giving them detailed feedback would improve the skills and learning capacity of the students.
