BITS PILANI : A PORT FOR SUCESS

The BITS Pilani curriculum is diverse and industry-orientated, with the flexiblity being offered by electives, dual degree and pratice school offered by the college. It provides industry ready courses like machine learning, deep learning etc. Although, some courses are outdated they should be improved by adding more practical learning to it. The exams consist of quizzes , midsem, and final exams of moderate difficulty , frequency of quizzes vary from course to course.

There is practice school program is BITS which provide 2-3 months summer internships , company select students on the basis on CGPA. Variety of companies come with vacancies. The stipend can go upto 100k Rs but averagely it is around 30 -40k Rs .

In BITS placements begin in the final year , with candidates being available from their 7th semester. Topper firms include Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Goldman Sachs,TATA etc. The highest package is 80LPA with average package of 20 to 25 LPA in rupees. Over 90% students are placed with rolesin software development, AI/ML, finance and consulting.

The BITS Pilani fee structure differs according to year you take admission in. Like for me in 2024-25 one time admission fees was 57,100Rs and refundable caution deposit of 3000Rs is to be paid. The tution fees per semester is 2,59,500Rs, with an estimated 5% annual hike. Other mandatory charges are a student union fee of 450Rs and a student aid fund contribution of 225Rs per year. Hostel fees are 28,800Rs per semester. For reserved students like SC/ST, BITS Pilani does not have a different fee structure. Also BITS have merit-cum-need scholarship which offers upto 80% fee waiver. It is applicable for ews and students having top 3% CGPA.

The campus life is energtic, with Oasis which october cultural fest and APOGEE which march technical fest being the showstoppers. The library has huge books , journals and online materials. Classrooms are equipped with smartboards, projectors and fast Wi-Fi. Gym Grounds and Student Activity Centre is fully equipped with sports materials and their courts. There are 50+ student clubs including coding ,robotics , music, dance and entrepreneurship.

I chose BITS Pilani , for many reasons, due to flexiblity in curriculum and timetable, also more industry exposure with practice school programs , no reservation system, and global alumni network. Unlike IITs, BITS offers relative grading, dual degree and option to choose electives freely. The admission process is through BITSAT, a competitive exam testing math, physics , chemistry, english and logical reasoning. With no-category based reservations, admission is purely merit based.

BITS Pilani have well educated faculty most of them completed their PhDs from leading institutions within India and abroad. The student to faculty ratio is about 15:1. The faculty-student relationship is very casual and warm. The course pattern is BITS pilani is fllexible and modular, permitting students to pick electives and plan their academic career. The curriculum is industry oriented combining theory and praticals with lab courses. The examination system adopts continous assessment approach which includes quizzes, midsem and comprensive exams. The grading is relative (CGPA-based) instead of percentage based.The difficulty in exams vary from course to course but they are moderate averagely.

For admission in BITS Pilani there is only written test which is BITSAT , this exam tests your physics, chemistry, maths, logical reasoning and english. Its result is announced on the day itself. The admisson is purely merit based without any reservations.

Night life is bit low key is BITS , but there are ways to unwind after classes. Most cafeterias close by 2 am , the gym closes by 9pm, student activity center is open for all night discussions or small events. Localty wise BITS Pilani is safe night roaming.
