Course Curriculum Overview

2

Literature is quite interesting. If someone is a bookworm like me and like reading greek epics they should definitely take up literature as their core course. Though it's tough but if someone really likes reading stuffs , you may go ahead. It basically develops one's thinking process and encourages to think out of the box. Creative writing is one of its aspect and it has a lot of scope in the real world. The literature exam paper can get difficult but it's all about personal opinion on certain topics or plays or novels. The duration is 3hrs paper for 65 marks.

Internships Opportunities

3

Various companies or associations come to introduce themselves and their works and in return select a few students who are suitable for the role of the job they were looking for. They offer internships, mostly paid and take interview of the students who are interested.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees I pay per semester is near about 20000/-, so yearly it stands to 40000/- for English honours. In english honours, there is no lab work so the lab fees doesn't apply for us. Including the tuition fees, admission fees, registration fees we have to pay 20000 per semester, i.e , 40000 per year. In other streams, for example in history or pol science the fees is comparatively lower and in case of mass communication it is 30000 per semester. There are no scholarships or financial aid that is provided to the students except for the SC and ST students.

Campus Life

2

Honestly, the functions that take place here are not that great or huge. Those are basically internals functions of the college. The library is huge with good amount of books. The requirements of the students can be fulfilled in case if the library. There are clubs but not as active as in other colleges. Overall, the extra curricular activities are not performed with as much respect as academic activities are.

Admission

The choose this college because it is quite a renowned one in Kolkata , especially in terms of English honours. I applied and I got a chance here, thus I didn't think of any other college as a backup or anything.

Faculty

2

There are 5-6 teachers in the English faculty and each year students varies from 60-80 in numbers. The faculty members are pretty good in teaching but a little less supportive. The syllabus is never completed in the college and classes get cancelled anyday. They never take initiative to plan something for us like in other departments of the college. Overall it's quite boring and there's a lack of enthusiasm in the entire faculty.

Night Life

2

The college is situated in the main city near Nandan, therefore the night life looks busy yet beautiful there. There are a lot of places to hangout near the college. In terms of safety, the area is quite busy and there are a lot of colleges and offices, so people are always around, so the place can be called safe.
