- But within a few weeks all will be done and there won't be anymore problems.
Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum focuses on almost all aspects of biotechnology. You can check out the detailed curriculum on the university's website. At the end of 4 years you'll be equipped with the best skills and knowledge if you take these years seriously and move with determination. Workshops start with the 1st year itself while the internships start with the 3rd year, this giving you enough time and experience to prepare for the actual corporate world out there. You can also opt for higher studies both in India as well as abroad. VIT partners with a lot of foreign universities. Their 2+2 or the foreign exchange program can also get you a chance of studying in foreign universities with ease. The three exams per semester might seem a bit too much in the commencing semesters but I tell you, it is very crucial for the students as it helps them with maintaining consistency in their studies. The difficulty level is also moderate, much more than an average college but lesser than that of IITs, this making it just the right place for you to come and nurture your skills and knowledge.
Internships Opportunities
As I have mentioned before, internships are offered by companies by the start of the 3rd year. Most of them are paid. The top Biotech companies like Bharat Biotech, and many more provide tons of opportunities to the students so as to help them develop their skills et in order to face the real world with ease.
Placement Experience
Internships start from the 3rd year onwards. All high end as well as government run companies come to VIT to recruit fresh biotechnologists. The average package is 12 Lpa. And while the lowest package is around 6-7lpa the highest can go upto 24Lpa for B. Tech in Biotechnology in VIT. Even though the placement percentage is around 75%-80%, many students prefer higher studies because biotechnology is one such field which people study for becoming scientists and doing PhDs.
Fees and Financial Aid
Year wise fee-2-4lpa Fees is based on your rank and your counselling phase No extra fees for anything. Everything is included in the one time payment Scholarship available for students who score the 1st 100 ranks in the entrance exam
Campus Life
There are two grand fests that are held in VIT annually. Namely GraVITas- the tech fest and Riviera- the cultural fest. Bothe these fests provide amazing amount of opportunities for the students to showcase their talents by holding n number of competitions. The campus life is lovely and lively. With more than a hundred clubs and chapters, students can get involved into all sorts of fun activities ranging from singing, dancing and music to building the finest race cars and launching rockets. VIT has excellent sports teams, the achievements of which you can read on the university's website.. You can also checkout Youtube videos about Gravitas and Riviera which will show you more about these amazing times.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are pretty good. There are good rooms, storage spaces, plenty el ectric sockets.. Clean bathrooms everywhere on the campus. The mess food is actually edible along with being both healthy and nutritious. The menu contains a lot of variety and the biryanis are to die for. Registration for hostels can be done both online as well as after coming to the college.. It is mandatory for 1st and 2nd year students to reside in the hostels. After that students can rent rooms and PGs outside the campus too. The college is surrounded by PGs and it is pretty easy to live in there too. All in all the city is pretty safe.
Admission
To be honest , I didn't apply to any other colleges. My aim was getting into VIT to study Biotechnology, which I did, so there are no regrets.. But definitely you should apply for more colleges based on your research and interest. The admission process is pretty simple. 1st Step is applying for the VITEEE which is the entrance exam for all kinds of science and technology related degrees. VIT does not accept any other exams. It consists of 5 sections. Physics, Chemistry, Maths/Biology, English and Aptitude. Exam can be given with either PCMEA or PCBEA. For biology students there are only a few courses which you can check out on the website of the University. 2nd Step is getting admission form and giving the exam. The results will be out within a very few days. And then according to your rank you will be categorised in certain phases. Then will begin the final step i.e. the counselling. Note that people in phase 5 are not eligible for getting into the Vellore or Chennai campus. They can only get in the Amaravati or Bhopal campus. During counselling you will have to reserve your seat in the branch you want. And if you get the seat, boom! You are now a part of VIT, after paying the fees of course. After you pay the fees, you will officially become a VITian. Next step is coming into VIT. Every little bit of information is given to you by mail. So make sure you keep checking the mail box so as to not miss out on any important information.
Faculty
There are thousands of employees in VIT. Hundreds and tens for every branch depending upon the branch size and need. The first semester, faculties are assigned to students. After that we can choose our timetable and teachers by ourselves by a system called as the FFCS-Fully Functional Credit System. By this time seniors help the freshers out with the faculties. Every semester three sets of exams tak place. Two 50 marks exams and one final 100 marks. Throughout the semester there are assignments and quizzes in each subject the equivalent score of which is added in the final grade. The first exam is pretty difficult considering you've just been introduced to the new subject. The pass percentage is still high though. If you study the basics and study them well you can pass easily. The second exam is an open book exam. The exam is easy so the class average is also high. You will definitely need to study to be above average. The finals are again closed book and pretty difficult. The thing is, exams are application based and if you are not clear with concepts you will not be able to clear them with flying colours.
Night Life
Regarding night life, I wouldn't say much. Hostels here have strict rules regarding in time unless you have night slips for some club work or any such thing. Before 08:30 pm. there are all sorts of music practices and more such things going on at the one beloved place- foodys, an open shaded area meant for these things. Hostel in time for girls is 08:30 pm and for boys is 09:00 pm.
