Course Curriculum Overview

5

I chose my course as I'm interested in pursuing English base degrees. I think English is the base for the arts stream . It isn't like history or political science where we can just study a given fact, we learn to be creative, reading more about the work and not just the outer surface. I liked it even more after knowing the many works of art literature has provided, its more than just grammar and learning a language. The studying of such aesthetics and beautifulness in Literature has always been my dream. Moreover , my career aligns with persuing for foreign opportunities which i think is very suitable for taking English. And truth to say , English is also not a very easy subject it requires much readings and practice too like any other subjects in science. Without thorough readings and text base preperation its hard to write properly in exams with the limited time and having to cross word limits of 400 for short 800 for long. I dont think there's any improvement to be made when one can read and speak english but we do need a strong vocabulary and i hope teachers could assist us with more writtings and tutorials to improve our skills.

Internships Opportunities

4

There are many internships for those interested. If one keeps open to the opportunities they can easily be guided by our seniors and those who knows about it. Usually at the beginning of the Semesters we were introduced to many such international internships and national internships. They are well guided by the seniors and teachers so you have no worries. We also have opportunities to study outside india and pursue foreign languages study which i think is a good availability of our college. The companies are often those that have or are known to be trustable . These updates are available daily on official groups and they even notify us of datelines for registration and other meetings to clear our doubts. I think its quiet helpful for information. Yet it is whether you actually have the capability to gain those trust cause usually the work is much but there is less profit from them unless you're really good. With the amount of people competing it is better to stick to one goal and be clear what you want.

Fees and Financial Aid

The first time i paid for going to this college was 18000 approx. for Ba english hons and ig it was same amout for other courses of arts stream. For a 4 years course I will be paying about 70-80k just for the college alone. And during my stay in the college there are many other necessities which we have to pay for as we all know , like society stuffs , department fees and own personal expenses which is around 4-5k a month minimum (excluding pg fees, electricity, etc). Also from my batchmates they too pay around the same.As for Benefits of Sc/St i think they do have a little reduction among other general students , like myself. We also have scholarship facilities which we will be getting approximately 70-80k within or after our courses. Usually most doesn't get the scholarship as it is selected wise. For me i had applied for the National scholarship IsanUday , but there is also college scholarships provided, which both of these should be students who's family income is within 4lakh pet annum and the should have all the required certificates and proofs. Hope this helps.

Campus Life

4

We have alot of fun things goin on in our college for instance Diwali fest held in October litfest usually after first semester, field trips also after first semester, Festive seasons are well celebrated too . Rest is society stuffs which often go for competition and travels alot. We also have seminars held like every other weeks and they have important speakers. Our library have alot of books which is kinda old but its still alot. I wish they keep some new books though. The best place in library is the computer lab where we can use the laptops incase we have free time and i love that place , sometimesi use it to write my class works. The classrooms aren't that well furnished, they look avg govt classroom but afterall the teachings matter so anyway. Sports include basketball, volleyball, cricket, badminton, etc . As for society stuffs , they're self funded mostly for those in dancing , singing, cultural works , but their prizes are huge if they win, ngl they take 90% of your attendance and its either you join for a hobby or focus on studies , students can't do well in both and i think it mainly affects the studies. While rest of us joining societies that need our presence can give our 100% to classes and only focus on the study , overall its our choice and the college has well equipments for that.

Admission

Actually i had made my preference sheet only opting for girls colleges and therefore i think Gargi is good enough for that. Other colleges i opt for is Miranda, Kirorimal, LSR and so on. But these colleges are a bit out of reach for me with my marks and didn't got selected. The admission process is same for any clg in DU i belive , first cuet, fill preference sheet adding colleges you prefer, then you wait for the results and immediately accept the seat and later you can upgrade or accept it permanently both requires payment of fees. The cut off varies among different colleges according to their ratings, north campus are of the highest and they have cut off starting from 730+ and south is of 650+ and well it depends on yearwise and college wise . The most important process is filling of the forms correctly and keep checking for regular updates.

Faculty

Honestly I dont like the staff members in the office much. They hardly pay attention to us and mostly we have to to keep nagging them or regularly asks them else they don't help or is much helpful. Another thing being we have slow and unclear notices everytime. The other workers like gatekeeper, sweepers are fine they are more friendly according to me. Whenever we ask for room numbers or stuffs like using phone to call, which i once did , they glady helps with a smile and well i feel bad for them no having places to sit during times of day. Oh and we can't forgot those in canteen and cafeteria. The canteen workers is okay but the ones in cafeteria is very petty. Sometimes we just stand there for like 10-20 mins waiting for him to ask what we like and then he doesn't even listens instead blabber things like we're wasting his time and gets the wrong order. This is the reason i never buy stuffs from cafeteria. Everyone finds him rude so do i. And well that's that. About my favorites faculty? I haven't been here for long and so far nothing isn't that likeable or maybe I don't interact much , but i think i like my teachers better than anyone . To be precise our English Department teachers and Hod , they're so cool . I almost forgot my exams , so we basically have every end semesters exams , including the ones in monthly test and stuffs. They aren't that easy but its not so hard if we study a bit. I think most pass in my course like about 90-95% . We also have other extra subjects like GE, SEC, VAC in which we can choose other subjects as a minor . Rest its upto how we study and gather as much knowledge.

Night Life

5

Its pretty quiet around my college residing in Siri fort. Nights might be quiet too as there isn't much of places to hang out around there apart from cafes and books stores around our college. But a lil further from there we can have many places to visit. There's much flats around there but hardly any pgs which is kinda unfavorable for students who lives far and wants to shift nearer. Especially when my college starts from 8:30-5-30 , some breaks in between which is for most classes. Therefore daytime its chaos with all girls. Travelling wise its fine and convenient there's busses and auto we can take ryt from the college gate. I think the area is perfect for study purpose. The surroundings is safe and well maintained, quiet atmosphere and lively.

Course Curriculum Overview:

the curriculum is decided by delhi university, economics wing and is followed by all the colleges of du, although few topic are often irrevelent which teachers tend to skip. i do feel that curriculum is pretty old and they should introduce new topic which are more related to reak=l world and give us real life experience not just bookish knowledge which is irelevent. they should also ask for students input related to their curriculum, teachers sometimes tedn to just do book reading. internal exmas are taken frequently and difficulty is 3 out of 5

Course Curriculum Overview:

It is a good course. I went for it mainly because I am preparing for UPSC CSE (pretty common around here). In that context the course is helpful, and also for those aiming to enter research, academia, museology, archaeology etc. However there are not many placement opportunities and for most it would be better to pursue masters later on. Teaching methods are inclusive, both english and hindi medium students can comfortably study. However both students and faculties have some complaints regarding the curriculum changes under NEP such as the sequence of courses in each sem.

Course is rightly designed. Plus the teachers often suggest books that can be read from library regarding course topics. The library is very nice here. I used to study in the library for long hours. The exam notes and everything is available at the photocopy shop that's inside the college. Writing this review really made me miss the college more

Campus placement is done in the 3rd year. The highest PPO given is 24,00,000 to auditing and taxation departments. Average package is about ?15,00,000 to ?18,00,000. Companies like Eay, KPMG and more visit our college for placement. Most students under the commerce department get offered internships. Other than this, the placement cell also actively keeps sending internship opportunities for students to enhance their profiles. I am an English honours student l, thus there is no placement option for me directly unless I take up options from the P-Cell. I have already interned at EY India, Gurgaon, as a forensics and risk management specialist( throigh personal referral). My knowledge (attained from DCAC) of research, report and article writing were used adequately.

Placement Experience:

Generally, after BA no one is placed and even if we apply for a job we don't get a good package. So, students generally go for masters or some other courses through which they can get placements. Talking of college placement and internship cell we don't have very good facilities as very limited companies are there for recruiting students. Many students don't even get the internship. This is a major negative point of college.
