Course Curriculum Overview

4

Course curriculum is good in my opinion because it makes one apt or the future. Be it an industry level job or higher studies, the curriculum is sufficient to survive in those environments. Various subjects provide various insights about the working environment and the practical laboraroties make a good job in equipping the hardwares to students. More ICT techniques needed to be used for teaching and presenting seminars. And the exams needs to be regular considering the comfort of students.

Internships Opportunities

5

Since the college is situated in Trivandrum, there re many Biotechnology startups in the city limits. A recommendation from the HOD is sufficient to get internships in every institution. Since the college is renowned and the faculty is things, almost all the institutions take in the students.

Fees and Financial Aid

Since it was a government college, there is only a less amount to be paid in the form of fee for tuition purpose. For odd sem the fee would be below 800 and for even sem the feel would be below 1200. This is because even semesters have laboraroty practical works, which will have to deal will a lot of reagents, hence the slightly higher fee. Fee cold be paid semester wise or year wise also. During the time of admission, I paid around 10k including first year fee, PTA donation (around 6k, would vary from people to people), some sort of building donation (might not be present now since the constructions are completed),caution deposit of 250 and admission fee. Te caution deposit will be returned after the course duration. For SC/ST and EWS categories there is no fee upon the submission of valid documents. Some have to pay fees which will be refunded by the government to their bank accounts. In our class of 30, only 5 of us were paying fee, rest all were under egrantz scheme. There are a lot of scholarships available from kerala as well as central government. Timely application needed to be done in order to avail them.

Campus Life

4

Being an NSS Volunteer. I have enjoyed a campus a lot. With late night stays a day before some particular events, wall painting, international conferences, national seminars, the co curriculum is vast. And the fact that students are allowed to do these work shoulder to shoulder with faculty is of utmost importance. Students are made capable for the future. Student politics is also strong in the campus with only a single party dominating. They stand for the student rights and in organizing entertainment fests.

Admission

This was the only goverment college with the course I was looking for. Mistaken for the Kariavattom university campus, manu students apply for the college and upon arrival feel disappointed. But my case was different, I needed the course and the college was not an option. I didn't keep any other colleges for allotment. Just this one and got selected in the first round itself. For admission one needs to have high marks in the 12th. Especially in biologyz chemistry and physics. Index marks with high scores are more probable to get in.

Faculty

4

Faculty to student ratio is good with wel educated and highly qualified teachers in every departments. Some are friendly while some are not. The course structure is study-able within the alloted time, but some syllabus is vast with no enough time. Some amendnets are to be made with the syllabus, whichi believe is some and being implemented. Exams are conducted semester wise. But due to the university functioning bad, the exams are not regular with first semester having a soand of 9 months and the last semester having only 2 months. Marking scheme seems to me a bit unfair because I have lost a lot of marks due to marking error. For re-evaluation, huge amount is needed for each paper which is again not worth spending.

Night Life

4

There is no hostel facility for the campus till date. Since the campus is a low population campus, the need for hostels is not much. But considering the importance and rare nature of the courses the college offers, students from far away often take admissions. They are needed to stay in private hostels aor government hostels about 15 kilometres away.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum is almost best. Curriculum doesn't influenced me in deciding this course. Curriculum should add internships. Currently there is no mandatory internship, if students are interested they can do internship during vacations. As we are learning psychology which need to be practiced in real world settings, curriculum must include real world training to help students understand things more effectively. Currently intervel between exams are non existent. Internal exams, then semester exams, you blink once, next internal exams, followed by semester exams. Syllabus is understandable, can learn if you try. Exams are also manageable. Real world examples and stories can be included in teaching methods, as psychology is related to humans and human interaction, to get better grasp of concepts. Rather than focusing on passing exam, should focus on the concepts and understand them in-depth. There are a lot of theories to study by heart. And there are many repetitive topics that overlap, but in different semesters.

Course Curriculum Overview:

My course is Bsc Biotechnology. It is a research associated course. Its main scope is in research. But in every industry let it be medical or industrial a biotechnologist is required. I would like more practical knowledge than theory knowledge in this course as it is needed to be implemented in labs hands on experience is essential. Exams are conducted every 6 months as semester. Class tests and model exams are conducted frequently. Assignments, projects, seminar ,etc.. are given every month.
