Course Curriculum Overview

3

In my third year I will be learning Ai concepts like AI vision and Natural language Processing . This influenced me to take this course as i have an interest in this . This is very applicable to the real world , as our future will be AI . This course will strengthen my concepts in this field allowing me to pursue a masters degree . I feel the first year is a year wasted as learning biology , chemistry ,etc will not help me in the future . So i wish to get rid of these subjects in the first year and direclty jump into core computer concepts . As far as teaching is concerned , sometimes i feel teachers move to fast and more lab periods are required for coding subjects to actually practise . More importance should be given to subjects like data structures which is important for placements. Our timings of exams are well placed and we have three tests in year along with assignment . A quiz , mid-term , assignment and endsem in each subject. Some assignments can be made online instead of pen paper as this can help us save time. Assignments can range from questions to Coursera courses . The written assignments are tough and time consuming so id prefer a more application type project like making a website or a small game to help us develop projects.

Internships Opportunities

3

We have currently no placements as this is our first year of placements (we are a 4 year old college) . There is no placement data yet . However the fourth years have been promised centralised placements with the MANIPAL UDUPI CAMPUS. Hence i cannot provide you with that data yet.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total fees of Manipal bangalore for my course Computer Science with AI is 18 Lakh 62 Thousand only . The first year fees is common throughout all computer branches regardless of their specializations , which is 3 Laksh 35 Thousand . For the rest three years the fees is fixed to a 5 Lakh 09 Thousand . The cuation deposit which is refundable is 10 Thousand for damages and such other reasons. The Application fee is 600 while the entrance test fee is 1400 , which is a total of 2000. There is no management seat in this college however there is an NRI quota where the total fees to be paid for a computer science course is 23 Lakh 24 Thousand , over 4 installments . For all computer branches the fee structure remains the same . The freeship , scholar and achiever scholarship is available to all students who have passed class 12 with 80% in physics maths and an optional subject and a first semester cgpa of 8.0 without backlogs. The hbsf-Mahe EduEmpower Scholarship is for finacially underprivilleged students it covers tuition and hostel fees .

Campus Life

4

Falak is Manipal Bangalore's fest , help around October and our tech fest NEXus is help in March. Our library is as of now not that big as our official library is under construction , the books here range from every subject . I personally don't know much about this as i dont visit the library much. Within the classroom we are equipped with a projector so the faculty can show us PPT's making visualising easier . Every classroom has an ac , with comfortable seats and tables , spacious enough for 55-60 students to sit comfortably. All faculty also has a mic recorder so the classes can later be studied from by students Our campus has a football field , cricket ground , basketball badminton court (both indoor and outdoor) , it also has a gym . The football ground is a 11v11 ground allowing the football team to play competitive matches with other colleges . The basketball court in the sports campus is a top tier facility with wooden flooring and seats for the audience to sit on and watch . The club culture is not developed yet there are clubs like acm , codex etx but as of now there is not much involvement . As our college is new it will take few years for club culture to develop

Hostel Facilities

3

The hostel facility is very good as compared to other colleges , the rooms are clean and spacious . I stay in a room with 2 other roomates without an AC , as in bangalore AC isnt required much . There are three twin size beds with a study table given to each roommate and two fans in the room . In my hostel there is no bathroom in the room but there are two bathroom per floor so there is no issue of crowd , only during the morning before class you might have to wait before using the stall. The meal quality is decent , average . There is non veg on monday , wednesday , friday and sunday nights . The rest of the nights egg is given in the mess . There is always dal rice roti and a sweet dish every night . The lunch will be the same as dinner without the chicken/egg. Breakfast will always have a boiled egg or scrambled egg with a fruit and bread-jam. The registration process of the hostel in first year was based on rank the first 1-12k would choose the first day and the rest on the next day . The hostels arent exaclty affordable with a total fees of 1lakh 89thousand for the least expensive room which is mine.

Admission

I had got into SRM and VIT Bhopal . SRM i did not consider as it was an online admission exam , which many students had used unfair means to get their rank , this caused me to pick manipal as i believed it would have a better crowd . VIT bhopal does not have as big as a name as manipal moreover it was in my hometown hence i chose this collge . I had a good enough rank to get ECE in main campus of MANIPAL but i chose bangalore as i was getting computer science here and i am passionate about this subject . I didnt get into IIT's or NIT's or BIT's as i feel i did not put enough effort in my studies and these exams require rigourous studies . Manipal's entrance exam or MET , is an on-site online exam , mcq based (+4,-1). The eligibility criterea when i had joined was a 50% in Physics math and an optional subject in Class 12 examination . I had got a rank of 11k and the cut off for my course was 12k . Once MET is written and ranks are out the counselling process starts where you opt for your preferred course and various rounds take place ,once your rank comes you will be alloted your course

Faculty

4

In a class there is 1 teacher to about 55 students . The faculty here is extermely approachable and infact call you to their cabin if you are facing difficulties in grasping concepts . Some teachers are also very understanding , for example Manjunath sir has given many students extra time during exams due to the traffic we all experience near baglur cross . Some teachers are strict and coarse but still teach well . I personally did not - not like any faculty as i myself dont talk much or get into trouble . If you don't disturb the class no faculty shouts or does anything . The exams here follow a relative grading pattern . To get a good grade you have to do better than others , this increases the difficulty in some exams and makes some exams easier this depends from person to person . Usually a 18/50 is required to pass the endsem exam but there are cases where the exam is so diffuclt the pass mark reduces to around 14-15 .This is due to the relative grading system . The fail mark depends on the the marks of others . Some subjects like MOS , COA , Math have a high fail rate as compared to others as these subjects tend to be harder for students . For math -2 i believe the fail rate was very high around 25-35/100 failed that exam. The course curriculum from the second year is relevant however in the first year there are subjects like Biology and Environment Studies which are not need in a computer science degree . Moreover in my first year there was only one coding subject which was in the first sem.

Night Life

4

My campus is equipped with a gym , football , basketball , badminton , tennis ground for students to play after classes . The gym usually remains crowded the whole day after classes . It is open from 4pm-9pm . The library is very busy during exam time . Students can by snacks at the campus mart such as snacks and chocolates . They can buy sandiwches , noodles and such from bluedove however these items are fairly expensive for a student and complaints have been raised on these high prices . Students can also leave campus anytime before curfew to go out to the city . There are malls like galleria in yellahanka which are not too far from campus . Central blr like Indiranagar are an hour away so if you plan you can have fun and come back before curfew time. The hostel timings are 730am-9am for breakfast , 12-230pm for lunch and 4-6pm for snacks and 730-915pm for dinner however these are likely to extend if requested . The incampus curfew is 930pm and we have to be in our hostel by 11pm

Other Applied Colleges

VIT Bhopal University | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning)

I preferred MIT blr over VIT as i thought MIT would provide me with a better opportunities
