What Students Say
Likes
- The campus is decent, really great clubs and student projects, you can do a lot, everything’s close by, services provided by the hostel are good enough, bathrooms are clean, classes are good and fully air conditioned.
- The library is great, you’ll get many reference books and it’s a good place to upskill yourself, we even have an innovation centre so that’s that, and well the student projects are killer, they make you work quite a lot but I feel that it’s worth it.
- Female to male ratio is good probably 1:4 or 1:3 so no problem there, try to converse with as many people, don’t shy away from interacting with people, it’s very easy, Messes are good, FC1 sucks but Adithya FC2 they’re good but you’ll still get bored
Dislikes
- Classes are boring, teachers are okayish, but they kinda kill your interest especially the electronics and mathematics prof but then there are good teachers too it’s just your luck tbh. Don’t get distracted it is very easy to get distracted.
- When you get here call a car rental service since Ola and Uber don’t work here and the autos are kinda expensive.
- Just focus on studies and extracurriculars, see it’s very easy to get influenced positively too and even negatively, it’s all in your hands, be clear about your goals and work on them. Stay away from drugs and cigarettes even alcohol.
Course Curriculum Overview
So I chose chemical engineering or as I like to say chemical engineering chose me :) , the course is very flexible I must say, and it's interesting, great if you wanna go for a masters, and is also very research oriented, there's the minor program where you have ample choices, so that's really cool. The course is relevant as per today's technology, atleast for chemical engineering. Exams are moderate, somewhat difficult but it's doable.
Fees and Financial Aid
See to be very honest, this is one con of Manipal, it's expensive, the fee for one year ranges from 3.5 to 8 lakhs per year (CSE branches being relatively expensive). There aren't any hidden fees, everything is included in the main fees, so to avail scholarship there's one based on income, ig below 8lpa, you'll get a scholarship and then there's another one if you get a rank below 1000.
Campus Life
So there are two major fests, technical and cultural, tech tatva and revels. Revels is good atleast that's what I've heard, and tech tatva is decent enough. Classes are recorded, notes are uploaded, no need to worry if you miss a class, can always rewatch it, even the notes online are good. For these purposes we have the LMS portal. Sports activities are very much prominent here, many gyms, Marena is the sports arcadium for all MAHE students, you have to pay for it but it's worth it. MIT swimming pool is cheap and it's well maintained, although a little overcrowded it still works. Student projects and clubs are top notch, all overachievers and hard workers, should definitely go for anyone of them.
Admission
So I didnt get into IITs or NITs and well VIT SRM are very conservative regarding the course and academic freedom. BITS I couldn't go cause I wasn't eligible due to boards, hence Manipal was the best option I had. I got into Maharashtra state colleges decent ones, but then Manipal compared better because well you have an entire campus and not a single building, various departments, stellar research and a good campus life, who doesn't want that !, Manipal gives you a balance between a chill fun life and a good academic one. I'm pretty sure that you won't find a negative review of Manipal by the students.
Faculty
Okay faculty to student ratio in the first year is kinda bad but in consecutive years it's really good. Some professors might be good teachers some might not, but they'll try hard to explain concepts, and are easily approachable so don't hesitate in asking doubts. Faculties from second year onwards are more enthusiastic about the subjects especially the senior professors, so overall they're decent. At the end of the day if you pay attention, you will understand something, regardless of how the teacher is. Okay so exams right, Endsems and midsems that's it, 4 internal assessments which can be in the form of a test of assignment each of 5 marks, assignments are literal saviours to improve your cgpa. Exams are moderate not too tough not too easy, avoid studying one day before the exam and be regular, or else it's very easy to fail. The good thing is that you'll get a chance if you fail, you can give the make up exam in which the highest grade you can score is a C grade, still better than failing.
Night Life
Nightlife and Manipal are two things that go hand in hand, many gyms nearby all affordable, library is great you'll find many people dedicating a lot of time to studying. There are food vendors inside the campus on student plaza and then there are many restaurants outside. Hostel timings are fixed, 10:30 for 1st years and 11:30 for the rest. Gate closes at 10 for 1st years and 11 for the rest. See there are many pubs and clubs nearby so if you're into that you're gonna love it, if you like beaches you'll love it, if you like nature, you'll love it here.
