Course Curriculum Overview

4

The IISER Pune BS course builds a strong foundation in science, fostering critical thinking and hands-on research skills. In first three semester you would be learning all subject of Science like physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics and environmental science. From 4th semester you chooseparticular subjects in which you want to do your major and minor , culminating in a final-year research project. Though comprehensive, the curriculum could improve by incorporating more industry-oriented skills like computational science and data analysis. Exams are well-timed but challenging, requiring conceptual understanding over memorization.

Internships Opportunities

4

The college is reserch oriented and promote natural sciences, so you will not find any industry related internship . The students do reserch here and students do internship here but reserch oriented, students do internship in the college itself or go to other University like Iisc bangalore or IITs for internship. Here proffesor will guide you and help you regarding internships.

Fees and Financial Aid

The course fees per year for general and obc students is 80,000 and for sc/st/pwd is extremely low around 25,000. The fees remain same across course. The scholarship are of 2 type 1) through National Scholarship Portal , from which you can get your tution fees back. 2) Merit base scholarship , the most popular here is INSPIRE Scholarship, students who are in top 1 percentile of their class 12 board and under 10000 rank in jee mains and jee advanced.

Campus Life

4

The course starts in August and first semester ends in last week of November, in December there is winter break than from January second semester starts and it ends in last week of april. In month of may, june and july for 2.5-3 months you have a summer break. In campus there are no fest or tech fest conduct here. In library you will find books towards science in large amount. You will also find reserch paper publish by students studying here . There is also a web portal of library where you can found almost all books digital version. The classroom are highly technological, you have camers , projectors and screening helping students . There are sports facilities both indoor and outdoor. Every year in month of December there is a sports compition take place between all 7 iisers and iisc bangalore. There are many students run social groups and club are there. There any group in which you teach school students who cone from under privileged background snd csnt afford good level of education.

Hostel Facilities

5

There are 3 hostels, 2 for boys and 1 for girls. Every student who get admission here get a hostel room alloted. In room are of 2 sharing, there are 2 beds,2 cupboard, 2 study table with lamp,2 chair,1fan and extra shelf for storage. There is 4 common bathroom in every floor. The fees is 4000 for hostel per year. The mess year has not senester wise fees . You have to pay for every meal you take , from my experience the average food monthly cost is around 4500-5000. The food taste and quality is surprisingly very better than other government colleges. The variety of food is good you will get both veg and non veg.

Admission

I chose IISER Pune over NIT Surat because of its dedicated focus on pure sciences and research. While NIT Surat offers a strong engineering program, IISER Pune’s interdisciplinary curriculum and research-driven approach align better with my career goals in science. I am here surrounded by a passionate people about discovery, it was a major factor. IISER’s labs, faculty, emphasis on critical thinking truly inspire me, while its environment is very reserch oriented which is essential for my growth in the sciences.

Faculty

4

In each course there is 1 main faculty and 6-7 Ta's. Ta's are actually students how are doing phd here they take tutorial and doubt clearing session every week. The faculty are quite approachable you can email them and most of time you will get response within 48 hrs. In terms of naatural sciences the course curriculum is very relevant. About exams there are 2 main exams in 1 semester m8d sem and end sem both carry around 70-80% weightage overall and rest 20-30% are of quiz that happens weekly or 2-3 times in semester according to faculty. Around 10-20% students fails in exams.

Night Life

5

There is 1 night cafeteria, which opens at 10 pm and close at 5 am. You can get tea, coffee, Maggie, sandwich and some snacks. The library timings are from 8 am to 11 pm from Monday to Saturday. There are multiple study rooms and discussion rooms fir over night studyies. There is not timings restrictions for hostel or for campus . You can enter at any time and leave at any time. You will find people all over night in campus walking, talking and studying. There are not many hang out spots but at late night students hangout at cafeteria or near sport campus .

Placement Experience:

Our college encourages diversification but due to the primary aim being research, most people go for a career in academia but placements are also provided in major companies but the percentage of students going for this choice is low.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum is great in doing what it is meant to, and as a structural BSMS course. It gives you more information then a classical Bsc course and prepares you entirely for a PhD is the topic of your choosing. What got me here is the freedom of choosing, you can choose whatever courses you want, regardless of what major you want, and best of all, you dont need to qualify for a major to graduate. Hence there is a complete freedom of choice over what cources you like and what you want to pursue later in your academic carrier. There are a few nooks where teaching methods could be better but that translates from professor to professor and is not a complete view of the college itself. Exams occur every two months, and there are many quizzes in between, this leaves no time to rest for students who are jumping from one quiz to another and are instantly faced with exams. The difficulty level is again decided by the course coordinator and is mostly okay for all.

Placement Experience:

Students are eligible for sitting for summer internship programmes of iiser pune. Not many software companies visit this college for placements as most of the students of this college sit for higher studies for their PhDs or publish research articles. However a student who wishes to get a job in corporate can get an online course of computer science done and apply for off campus placements as the IISER PUNE tag value along with good skills are more than enough for you to get a high paying job.

Course contents are good but could be too lengthy for some as the semester is only of 4 months which is not sufficient for such large course contents. The grading is relative which gives fairness to everyone.

Placement Experience:

The campus is one of the factors why the IITs are hyped this much. The placements are good with the average placements clocking somewhere around 23.5 LPA. Students become eligible for placements from the third year, where they can complete an internship, and if they get a PPO, they are good to go. Companies like JANE STREET, BANE AND COMPANY, NVIDIA, and FANG visit the campus for placements, providing offers as high as four crores per annum. The 4 cr was offered by JANE STREET for HIGH-FREQUENCY TRADING. The percentage of students graduating is close to 80% , the remaining are students going for higher studies or preping for some government exams, there is rarely an unemployed graduating student.

Placement opportunities at IIT Bombay are very good. But getting a high paying job depends on an individual - how skilled and qualified they become after 4 years. If you lay focus on academics and build your personality with all the resources and networks you have IIT Bombay, you'll definitely land at a very good place in your life. There are also startups and business opportunities. Entrepreneurship is encouraged by the departments.

Placement Experience:

As there was placement in the year 2021 which is nearly 56 percent. Around 20 companies visited campus like TCS, AKASH, CIPLA etc. for placement. But most of student do not like placement becuase they have their plan about research so they do phd and post doc in their career which they think best according to their opinion. But in 2021 the avg. package was 8 lpa and each participant have 2 offer. Also the highest package is 13 lpa, which is very nice as compare. but the main reson is research that's why placement is not so higher.
