What Students Say?
Likes
- The first thing that impressed me in my college is the campus and its environment. VIT had one of the best campus atmosphere with many really good architecture and vibrant facilities.
- The second thing is the the amount of clubs and chapters available for students to participate. The college always looks so engaging so that every student can show their own talent and excel in it.
Dislikes
- The amount of students in the university still scares me , there are 30000 plus students studying in vit vellore alone which I feel will make the hidden talents of many stay hidden.
- The faculty and student ratio also is bad. Which leads to larger class sizes which again affect the personalised attention to each and every student.
Course Curriculum Overview
One of the main reasons I chose the BCA program at VIT is its focus on modern technology trends such as data science, cloud computing and software development. It is fairly comprehensive to Industry demand. The curriculum covers important areas such ad programming, data structures, databases, web development and more. Ensuring students are updated on the current trends and needs of the IT Sector.
Placement Experience
VIT is known for its placements. More than 500+ companies come for placements like Amazon, Accenture , TCS and more year with lakhs and lakhs of students being employed. Mid way through a student's 7th(4 year program) or 5th (3 year program) or 9th ( integrated program) they become eligible. The eligibility criteria is simple , a student need to have 60% both in 11th and 12th, no backlogs or 1 backlog (differs to companies) while sitting for the placements. For BCA the highest salary offered is 12 LPA and min is 6LPA. The package differes for the departments. The average is 10-11 LPA. Every year the placed students percentage increases and differes. The average is 60%. Many students continue to study masters either in vit itself or abroad too. I am planning to studying post graduate too.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The fee structure of the course I am currently doing at VIT vellore is BCA( bachelor's in computer applications) , it follows a consistent pattern for the first two years , with the slight increase in the final year. First two years , ?60000 (Tuition fees, development fees, lab fees, etc) . Final year, ?65000(additional graduation and certification fee) . VIT also offers scholarships on merit and need . One prominent scholarship is the Merit-cum-need scholarship , which provides financial aid to students with high academic scores.
Campus Life
VIT is vibrant university with many modern infrastructure and campus life. There are many clubs and chapters in which students can participate and grow. You can see VIT with always a event coming up everyday. Two main events held at VIT are Gravitas and Riviera. Both of these events are held every year with , Gravitas being a tech event where students engage and show their technical skills and the Riviera is a cultural event with all the fun. As said the campus is so modernised and clean. The classrooms are equipped with projectors making it smart classrooms. The library is vast and has thousands of books and journals and more separated by 3 floors.
Admission
Firstly I was never interested in computer field. I took science and maths in my 12th. I applied in Christ university, Bangalore and Madras Christian college, Chennai . In both places I applied for BA journalism and English but in Christ they offered me the course in Pune which I was not comfortable with for personal reasons and in MCC I was provided with hostel so I had to choose a pg. VIT was just a backup which I applied , that too not for engineering courses but BCA. One thing in which VIT stands out is in thr name and brand. The admission process is simple in VIT. For the BTech courses you will have to write an exam VITEEE in which a student has to optain a good rank within 1lakh so according to your rank the Fee structure differs. For non-engineering courses you will need to have a good score in your 12th especially in maths and physics.
Faculty
I have studied in vit for Three years now and I can barely name any faculty who was not approachable or kind. Every other faculty are greater teachers in their own way and provide really good quality of knowledge to their students. One of my favourite would be Bala Ganesh sir who taught us softer testing. He provided us with industry level insights which helped us very much. I can't name any faculty which I disliked but I do wish the secretaries at the HOD office treated the students better if we have any query. Few of them were a bit rude sometimes. The course structure differs with the IT needs and growing expectations. They are always updated for the student's future. The exam structure is simple we have two internal exam called CAT(continuous assessment test) among which the second CAT is an open book exam and the last semester exam called FAT(Final Assessment test). A student should have an internals of at least 40 scored both from cat 1and Cat 2, from 2 quizzes and Digital assignment. The Fat is held for 100 marks. The grades are allocated according to the class average.S grade being the highest.
Night Life
Students are mostly allowed to hangout inside college till 9 after which both hostellers and days scholars are sent back. The timing differs for boys and girls In hostel. The girls are to back to hostel before 8 and boys 9. And if they are going out they are only allowed to go before 7 which applies for both boys and girls. VIT is very huge that it has many hangout spots and places inside out. Many students favourite place would be the foodys near the main block. You can always see students engaging through activities there or they sometimes simply sit and chitchat also. My favourite spot would be the Namma chai near SJT(silver jubilee tower). Since it is the college are there are many spots outside the campus to enjoy with friends. Outside vit to hangout and play with friends, mud cups, frozen bottle, 8 ball pool, tennis court and many more. My favourite food spot is a very small mess opposite main main gate called "aunty mess" but the service is bad there but the food is a 100.
