Likes
- Course structure is very well done. It is updated, infact it is updated recently itself. It is quite interesting and informative with hands on approach. Very well structured
- Faculty. The faculty members in criminology department are hands down the best teachers you will ever encounter. Dr. Swetha Thomas will always be my favorite teacher of all time. Being the HOD, she was an amazing faculty member
- Campus diversity. We will find a mix of crowd here, people from all parts of Kerala. Infact my class itself had students from all districts.
Dislikes
- The campus infrastructure. The college has three buildings and the one for criminology department is a building made of fake walls and partition. There is barely a campus for the students to walk and explore.
- Area. It is situated right in front of the road in the middle of the city. The crowd and noise is extremely disturbing and distracting.
- Lack of practical education. The college lacked proper labs and infrastructures for criminology and forensic students. It is a course that requires practical teaching that we were devoid of completely leaving us stranded when we went for higher ed
Course Curriculum Overview
The course structure and syllabus is very well structured and updated every year to make sure it is up to date and relevant. It is very very interesting and informative. It lack a bit of practical learning but otherwise it is pretty good. Exams are conducted after semester but it is relatively easy to handle. Teachers use a mix of lectures, and online seminars and pdfs to teach students
Placement Experience
There are placements in St thomas, with a placement cell but I have to say it beyond terrible. Especially students from criminology and forensics have zero opportunities in their field. They barely help with higher education or career counseling. It was quite frustrating as they had a negative approach itself to our batch
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee depends for every course and your reservation. But it comes less than 1 lakh to be honest. It's quite affordable. There are no extra or hidden charges or fee required, that will be pretty much it. I don't think there are any scholarships opportunities as the fee itself is quite less and affordable for everyone.
Campus Life
The college had some programs, but the clubs and all were totally namesake. The college needs to be more effective in terms of activities and clubs. Co-curricular activities are very minimal apart from the usual arts wvent every year. Sports activities are nicely conducted. Library in st thomas is the best amenity. It's newly constructed and the best part of the whole campus
Admission
I chose St thomas because of it's reputation. It has been there since 1800's. Besides it is the only college in the state if kerala with this particular course and I say that is very impressive. The admission process is conducted online with an offline interview after being shortlisted. You need great scores in your school marks to be considered as the competition is pretty high.
Faculty
The faculty is the best part of our department. They were well trained, skilled and the best in their fieeld. The HOD Dr. Swetha Thomas is one of the best teachers I came across, the kind of teacher that leaves a mark. Dr. Febin, assistant professor is extremely skillled and knowledgeable. Overall, the faculty is amazing. Exams are conducted every semester and is relatively easy. It is well aligned with the curriculum
