Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The course structure of each branch in BITS is published on the official BITS Website. Every course includes midsem, endsem, quizzes, projects and Lab work. The projects motivate us to find real world applications of the topics we study in class and Labs help us understand the core concepts in a practical way. The teaching method of professors is good they explain all concepts in detail and possess comprehensive knowledge of their subjects. The marking scheme can be made a bit lite, to help students score marks as many times they lose marks because of very silly mistakes. the quizzes are both surprise and announced and are usually taken once in two weeks. The difficulty of all exams is moderate to tough.

Internships Opportunities

4

Different companies come for different roles. Expedia, Accenture, SpareX, Atlassian come for data science roles. Google, Qualcomm, Rubrik, Sprinklr, Microsoft, Ribbon, Samsung these come for Software roles. Mondelez, HUL, P&G come for supply chain role. Accenture, BCG and some startupos come for Consulting roles. Ola, Zomato come for product roles. Stipend for all companies varies and these companies offer a summer internship for two months and also convert it to a pre placement offer if performed well.

Placement Experience

4.5

The 5 year course students become elligible for internishs after the end of 3rd year and for placements after the end of 4th year. The 4 year course students become elligible for internships after end of 2nd year and for placements after end of 3rd year. The practice school 1 takes place after end of 2nd year in summer for both 4 year and 5 year course students and offers unpaid internships. The Practice school 2 takes place in 4th year for 4 year courses and in 5th year for 5 year course students. Students can choose to sit in either of the semester for placements. Usually good IT companies come in odd semester and non core companies of product, consulting come in even semester. Comapnies like rubric, tower research capital offer package in crores. Usually 75% of students get placed with an average package of 15LPA.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tuition and hostel fees in BITS are increased by 15% every year. I am mentioning all the fees in INR. In 2021 when I entered the college the tuition fee was 2,18,000 per semester hostel fees were 10,000 per semester and the mess fee was 4000 per month. With the increase of 15%, in the year 2024, the tuition fees have become 2,75,000 per semester, hostel fees have become 20,000 per semester, and mess fees 5000 per month. The fess is different for all batches and changes for each batch every year according to the 15% increase rule. The fees increase a bit for all the upcoming new batches. The Practice school system PS-1 PS-2 takes additional fees of 80,000 - 1,00,000 and it may increase further also. There is no fee concession for SC ST or OBC. Fee is same for all. There is a Merit Cum need scholarship provided to children whose parent's annual income is below 12LPA. Scholarship is granted to students based on their CGPA. For eg. 25% scholarship for CGPA above 6.5 and below 7.5.

Campus Life

4.5

The campus life in BITS is amazing. There is no in time and out time for the hostels, you can be out and enjoy with friends for as long as you want. The clubs like dance, music, instruments, drama, comedy organise fun events time to time to portray their work. Other clubs like consulting club, product management club, operations and startegy club take up new projects from different firms. There are also technical clubs like DVM, SUTT, KXR Lab. All sports like Teniis, Badminton, Table tennis, Football, Skating, frisbee, swimming etc. We can be part of sports team and participate in sports competitions. The BITS Libraray has a vast collection of books, the library has group discussion rooms, AC rooms and normal rooms too with charging points. The Fests are the best part of campus life, Sports fest BOSM is held in month of september, Cultural fest OASIS in october end or november and Technical Fest APOGEE in month of march. All the fests are completely student organised.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The hsotel facility is ver affordable. With about 20k per semeter. Hostel rooms have a fan and personal coolers are allowed. Every hostel has a common room which has AC and students can go to sit over there. The rooms have a whiteboard, bed, study desk and chair. Washrooms are common for all students and water coolers are located at every small distance. The mess is located near to the hostel and serves Breakfast, lunch and dinner. The menu is decided by students socienty of mess service and has a variety of dishes. With drinks, non veg, paneer, Chinese food, pasta, chole bhature and sweets also.

Admission

I applied for IITs through JEE Advanced, but I could not get anything above architecture in IITs. I also got admission in VIT CSE, MANIPAL CSE. However I chose BITS because of its brand value, good placements and internship opportunities, exposure to multiple activities, good peer group as there is no reservation and a great alumni network. Admission in BITS is taken through the BITSAT exam, with a requirement of 75% and above in 12th boards. The questions asked in the BITSAT exam are moderate and are of JEE Mains level. BITS offeres two programs Dual degree and single degree. Single degree refers to a B.E. in Mechanical, Chemical, CSE etc, and Dual degree refers to Msc.+B.E. Dual degree students get to choose their MSc and are alloted their B.E. degree on basis of the CGPA scored in 1st year.

Faculty

5

The number of faculty in each department varies according to the number of courses offerred by the department. The faculty in BITS have a PHD from BITS, IIT or a good foreign university. The faculty have technical knowledge along with their field knowledge. Many faculties have their own startups. Prof. Krishnendra Shekhawat, from Maths department who has a PHD from prestigious Georgia University has his startup based on Graphs and floor plans. All faculties are always ready to help students and very approachable. The examination system in BITS is very strict. The papers have application based and mostly new questions. The quizzes can be rated moderate and the midsem and endsem be rated tough. The marking scheme is very tougha nd is very strictly followed by professors. In most cases you are not awarded marks if your final answer is incorrect even when the procedure is right. You have tos tudy hard to get good grades.

Placement Experience:

Placements in my college are average but improving. Students become eligible for campus placements from 7th semester. A few companies like TCS, Wipro, Infosys, Accenture (off-campus support), Capgemini, and some local Jaipur-based IT firms visit the campus. Most offers are for software trainee, support, testing, or analyst roles. The average package is around 3–4 LPA, while the highest package goes up to 8–10 LPA (mostly off-campus or through exceptional performance). Around 60–70% students get placed through campus or combined on/off-campus efforts.
