Course Curriculum Overview
I chose this course as i love journalism but haven't looked into curriculum before admission. Curriculum is quite good but some portions are irrelevant. Practicals are very less in the college which is really important for this course. The areas related to television and radio broadcasting should be improvised. Exams are once in 6 months
Fees and Financial Aid
I studied at SN College Kollam. Fees are ?2,000/semester, plus ?300 deposit and ?500 miscellaneous. Hostel costs ?3,000/month. Students with e-grants get exam and course fee exemptions. SC/ST/OBC e-grant recipients also get hostel reimbursement and ?40,000/year pocket money. Family status determines PTA fund contribution
Campus Life
Main annual festivals in college is Onam , christmas and holy. Onam is typically celebrated in the months of August or September and christmas in december. Other programmes will be magazine inauguration, union inauguration, Sree Narayana jayanti, food fest, youth festival. Books and journals is easily available to the students with college id card.
Hostel Facilities
For under graduation students they mostly provide dormitory and for pg students they provide rooms. Food is not so good with same time of menu. Registration process for hostel is easy as a form will be provided from the college with a sign of the principal and it is affordable comparing to other hostles and pgs near. Hostel fee per month is 3000.
Admission
At first I got admission in a college at Ernakulam ( MG University) But it was far from the town and doesn't have much bus. Service, which was quite tiring. So I applied for supplementary allotment. And I got into sn college kollam. Since I studied Journalism in my higher secondary education , the college admission for me was quite easy and I didn't got any rejection from any of the colleges I applied . Since my college is an aided college, fee structure was very affordable which is not seen in many other colleges with this course as it a professional course. The admission procedure for my college is to apply In the Kerala university site at the time of application entry. Eligibility for admission is to complete higher secondary education from any valid board.
Faculty
The relationship between the faculty and students are quite good in most of the departments .In my department which is JMC the department faculty is really approachable and so friendly. My favourite faculty is Siva miss as she is just like our sister. And the faculty i didn’t like was our HOD Harilekshmi miss as she is so selfish. There as 2 exams per semester. An internal exam and the main semester exam. About 10-15 students fail to clear examinations.
