Remarks

Overall it's a good college with good infrastructure and a decent quality of faculties. The fees structure is also feasible and the other facilities are quite good. Although the teaching standards can be elevated.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Bengal college of engineering and technology comes under the Maulana Abul Kalm Azad University of Technology, West Bengal and the course curriculum is as per the university norms. The course curriculum is the same for all streams in the first year. Second year onwards branch paper is included in the curriculum. In the first three years (six semesters) and the seventh semester, there are 5 or six theory papers and 3-4 practical labs. And in the final semester(8th) there are 3 theory papers and 3 practicals for my branch. It differs from branch to branch.

Internships Opportunities

My college doesn't provide an internship of any sort. Although a student can apply for an internship at other firms for that the college issues a No Objection Certificate (NOC) which allows the student to focus on the internship.

Placement Experience

0.5

As per placements are concerned, it varies from year to year. There is no fixed percentage. For example, last year (2018) around 300-350 out of 600 students got placed while still in college and rest got placed after the college. And this year till now about 50 out of 120 students from my branch are placed from my branch. I can't say for the rest of the branches.

College Events

2.5

Our college celebrates a number of events each year such as an E-fest(among 3-4 more events) organised by the Entrepreneurship development cell, three NSS events- paper drive(an old newspaper collection event from the nearby areas, a cultural fest-AASHA, food and cloth distribution event twice a year, and Diwali celebration at a nearby orphanage. Apart from these events, there are two more groups in our college- CodeVision and Robonixx which celebrates their respective annual events. Also, our college has an annual sports meet.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The tuition fees of the college are decided by the university for all the colleges under it and it is 42200 per semester. Apart from this, there is hostel accommodation available with fees 35000(single with attached bathroom), 32000(double sharing with attached bathroom) and 27000 for double sharing and common bathrooms for each semester. Overall the fee structure is quite feasible.

Fees and Financial Aid

Our college doesn't provide any scholarship although scholarship is provided to a handful number of students by the West Bengal government coming from weaker sections of the society. Also scholarships from other state governments and central government can be availed.

Campus Life

4

There is a separate lab for each subject. There are about 10-12 labs in my department alone. The college also has a chemistry lab and a physics lab apart from the labs for the branch papers. Our college has a football cum cricket ground, a badminton court in the college and in the hostel, a basketball court and a volleyball court.

Hostel Facilities

3

As already said the hostel has three accommodation types of single sharing and attached bathroom, double sharing with the attached bathroom and double sharing with a common bathroom. For the common bathroom types, there are eight bathrooms on each floor. Also, the hostel provides food four times a day.

Alumni/Alumna

Personally, I haven't experienced any alumni meet. As per seniors are concerned, they all were nice. And the college campus is ragging free. I personally never experienced ragging neither in the college campus or in the hostel.

Exam Structure

The exam structure is simple. Each year is divided into two semesters of 70 marks theory papers and 30 marks internal marks. Also, each semester has two internal exams of each paper of 50 marks each(previously it was of 30 marks).

Admission

So getting admission into Bengal College of Engineering and Technology has two ways. One is through the West Bengal Joint Entrance Exam (WBJEE) and the second way is direct admission (in case seats are vacant after the first way). I appeared for WBJEE and got a rank of about 25000. I went in for the counseling process of WBJEE. It had three rounds and for that, I needed to give a list of college as per my priority. In the first round I got BCET but the IT stream. I thought of waiting for the second round and after the second round, I was allotted a seat in the computer science and engineering department. I had to submit a demand draft of rupees 20000 to reserve the seat and was given a date by which I had to report to the college. The amount was later adjusted in the fees of the college. After the counseling process, I reported to the college and filled out the admission form and other necessary forms. I had to submit my transfer certificate in original and copies of rest all other documents such as mark sheets. After completing all the formalities I was given the joining date and hence I got admitted to this college.

Faculty

3

My college has a decent quality of teachers and an ample number of them. Out of which some faculties are already Ph.D. holders and some are currently doing their PhDs. There are separate teachers for separate streams and are well qualified.

I’d rate HIT’s placement opportunities as 7.5/10 overall. It’s very good for CSE, IT, and ECE, decent for Electrical and core branches, and improving every year with more companies visiting and better preparation programs. If you’re skilled and consistent — especially in coding, communication, and aptitude — you’ll almost certainly get placed before graduatin

7th semester is when the students get to sit for placements. I am not sure about the total no of companies visited but I am aware of the name of few companies like IBM Infosys Wipro Capsitech Tech Mahindra cognizant etc . Mostly the girls are 100 percent placed cause there is diversity hiring. Mass recruiters is what visit our campus mostly.. I personally would look for a job after graduation highest package offered displayed by college is 75 lpa but I don't think so it is real. Maybe someone had worked hard and got placed off campus. On campus highest isbi guess 12-14 lpa

Course Curriculum Overview:

- I choose Data Science as it is new to my college when comparing with the other branches. The curriculum is just okay it is not per industry standards but if students deep drives in each aspects then they are likely to crack GATE exams. - The whole curriculum needs and improvement from the very 1st Year and removal of irrelevant subjects like Discrete Mathematics, Electonics, Biology for IT branches are required. - Semester exams are conducted every 6 months and CTs are conducted every 2 months
