Remarks
Universities should not focus only on studies but also take care of other things mainly sports. Sports I think are equally important as a healthy mind needs a healthy body.
Course Curriculum Overview
At the time of my admission students had to complete 195 course's credits for the completion of a B.Tech degree but now with new admissions students only have to complete 160 credits which removes a lot of burden on students. The exam structure is very simple. For a subject, out of 100 marks, students are evaluated on the basis of 3 tests namely Test-1(15 marks), Test-2(25 marks), Test-3(35 marks) which take place on regular intervals and remaining 25 marks are an internal assessment based upon student's attendance, class quiz. This kind of exam pattern makes it very easy for students to pass the examination. Course Curriculum is such that students can gain a lot of knowledge of their branch if he/she studies well but it totally depends upon them whether they want to learn or not.
Placement Experience
There is a combined placement session for students of all Jaypee Colleges(JUIT, JIIT, JUET & JUA) at JIIT, Noida. For our University Placements were very good this year with 97% overall placements and 123% in C.S.E. Placements continue even after completion of college and these figures increase. Most of the students I know are already placed with a lot of them having more than 1 offer. The student from our University got the highest package of 10 lakh but JIIT students also got a 40 lakh package. As placements are combined, so you never know :). If you maintain a CGPA above 6 and want a job, you will definitely be placed. Companies also provide internships and students avail of condensed semesters for internships in different companies like Infosys, Cognizant, SAP Labs, Click Labs, etc.
College Events
We have an Annual Cultural Festival(Le-Fiestus), Sports Festival(Parakram), Technical Festival(Murious). MUN takes place in our university every year and we have huge participation from different Universities in all festivals from pec, Thapar, DU, UIET. Besides these festivals, there are also other events including music and singing competitions, Fresher's night(Diksha). University also takes students for participation in other college festivals. I was in the University table tennis team. So I attended different sports fests at Chitkara University, IIT Manti, JUET Guna, Jiit Noida, IIT Ropar. University also bears all the expenses of the participants for the duration.
Fee Structure And Facilities
Tuition Fee for the 1st year was Rs.1,10,000 for all branches including C.S.E. for B.Tech course at time of my admission back in 2015 which increased to 1,70,000 in the final year. Rs.10,000 extra as caution money at the time of admission. For the new admission fee structure changes every year with a little increase in fee amount.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I haven't opted for any scholarship or education loan. However, there are a few management seats in the University for some students.
Campus Life
Campus life is the only life here. Small town Waknaghat is 3kms from the University. Cities like Solan and Shimla are 15-20 km from the University. Students go there mainly on weekends. The gender ratio is good here with a good quantity of girls(Himachal's girls are beautiful too.) I have friends from different states like H.P., Haryana, Punjab, Bihar, U.P., Delhi, J&K and all of them are very good friends. So, there is a lot of diversity. Sports is the only place where I think the University lacks. Sports facilities include Table Tennis, Badminton, Basketball, Volleyball. There are no proper grounds for cricket, football, athletics, skating, no swimming pool. University also doesn't care about sports. They only focus on studies which I think is a bad thing from my point of view as sports are equally necessary. Other extracurricular activities happen a lot often but most of them related to studies like different workshops from IEEE, ACM, etc. Several hacking competitions take place on technical fests. MUN happens every year. TEDx also happens. There is also JYC(Jaypee Youth Club) which includes cultural, movie, environmental, disciplinary, literary, etc clubs for organizing different events.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel fee was Rs.90,000 in 3rd year and 95,000 in 4th year. Increases by some amount every year. The hostel is the best part of this Campus as you are mainly disconnected from the outside world due to the Campus location. You can learn more about friendship, about yourself. Hostel facilities are very good including the gym, mess, laundry, 24-hour electricity, cafeteria, high-speed internet access, vending machines. Whole University is connected via LAN. There are several Dhabas inside the University Campus which provide quality food. Every necessary item can be purchased there. There is a hot water supply in bathrooms throughout the year. Hostels for girls(Geeta Bhawan) and 1st-year students(Azad Bhawan) are separate. Senior students can apply for any of the two(Shastri Bhawan & Parmar Bhawan). There also separate hostels for M.tech & P.Hd girls ( Malviya Bhawan).
Alumni/Alumna
I know some seniors who are pass outs now. They come to some events in the college and stay with us in the hostel. They tell us about their current life, share experiences and guide us towards the future. They are very helpful.
Admission
The main counseling for admission took place in the Noida campus of Jaypee(JIIT, Sector-62, Noida). I got 3rd last seat in C.S.E. with 2,03,380 rank in JEE Mains back in 2015. Almost all of the seats in C.S.E. got filled in that counseling. Counseling for admission in remaining seats for some other branches takes place in Solan Campus. Now the admission process has changed somehow and students can take admission with 10+2 marks only.
Faculty
Registrar of the University is Retd. Major General. Director and Vice Chancellor are also highly qualified with several degrees and research papers. Most of the staff with a higher post comes from the IIT'S and every professor with a P.HD completed. The staff is very skilled with a lot of work experience. Many of the professors have their research publications in Foreign Universities. Head of our Computer Science Department Dr.S.P. Ghrera, for example, has worked on 8 books, 49 journals, attended 43 conferences and has received professional training at Aydin Systems, Mountain View California and Koden Electronics Tokyo. Also, the Fellowship of BCS(British Computer Society) was conferred upon him in 2013, for an extraordinary record of accomplishments. He is also a Senior Member of IEEE.
