What Students Say?
Likes
- Classrooms, tutorial rooms, laboratories and library facilities are the best
- Sports facilities like indoor stadium for basketball, badminton with multiple courts along with a gym. Also it has a laundry system which is free of cost.
Dislikes
- It has a clinic but it doesn’t provide consultations for severe complications and health issues. Also it is restricted to time so it closes everyday after 5 pm.
- The gym is strictly time constrained and the trainer is not enough qualified to train the people. It should offer more open hours.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course work is chosen by the students that is they have to tailor their courses according to their choices of interest also the best part is we can take interdisciplinary courses which gives us a broader scientific perspective. But at the same time the initial course work for the first two years can be overburdening for some of the courses cause we need to study some of the mandatory courses. Also we need to face quizzes and assignments every week which might be overwhelming for some. Also you need to attend few labs every week and complete their journals on time.
Internships Opportunities
We get a three month summer break which can be utilised by doing a summer project under the choice of your professor but only when the prof allows. Also you are allowed to avail intership across the country and world.
Fees and Financial Aid
So the average fee per annum for the BSMS Program is approximately 92k. It includes 68k for tution fee, 3.5k for annual medical insurance, 2k for sports amenities, 4k for library and laboratory facilities, 1.5k for examination and grade card fee, 4k for hostel rent, 4k for electrical and water services. For category students, all the charges mentioned above is same except for the tution fee which is completely waived for them. For scholarships, it offers NSP, INSPIRE which was approximately 1 lakh per annum. It also offers other financial assistance of its own.
Campus Life
The best part of this college is the campus life. You will get a lot of exposure to learn new things everyday. The campus life is very happening and it has various clubs along with several events that are always happening every week. You get socially active through these activities along with the annual fest. The best part to me was the annual sports meet where we were allowed to represent our institute among other competing institutions like IISc, NISER and other IISERs.
Hostel Facilities
The hostel facility is way better than any other colleges I have ever been. You get hot water facilities 24/7. Along with a pantry area for cooking. A parking area for your vehicles and cycles. The drinking water is very safe and it gets serviced every month. The washrooms and floors are very clean as there are housekeeping staff in every floor. And any malfunction in the room gets fixed immediately with a call.
Admission
I was looking for MBBS but I couldn't make it so I got admitted to IISER which a very prestigious college in India. This college is completely for people who are looking to pursue their careers in scientific research. It gave us a broader perspective but at the same time you have to work very hard in order to get good grades as compared to other colleges.
Faculty
The faculty to student ratio is very low. But the faculties are very much friendly and approachable. They reply to our emails as soon as possible. They guide us throughout our semesters. Dr. Arnab Mukherjee and Dr. Anirban Hazra are the best professors for chemistry. Their way of teaching is very much understandable by everyone. Dr. Mayurika lahiri is very much grades oriented and she prejudice students based on that. In a semester, we have few quizzes and assignments in every course along with a mid semester and an end semester exam for each and every course.
