Course Curriculum Overview

4

The curriculum is designed with specific course outcomes for the student in mind. Every branch has subjects and modules that cover all the necessary topics an engineer of that field needs ro call themselves an engineer in the real world.on an average every subject carries around 6 modules in a total of subjects per semester. Even though the syllabus is all covered it is pretty compact and needs flexibility. Also the course duration doesn't compliment the amount of syllabus to be covered which is something to be looked into while entering the course. Class tests are conducted every month in total of 3 and finally the end semester examination. The exams are pretty much based on PYQs and are average in difficulty level

Internships Opportunities

4.5

The college doesn't provide any such internships but the students are required to do three compulsory summer internship. Students are guided and instructed to find internships suitable to their interests. In the 1st year a social internship in a NGO, 2nd year academic internship in an institution and finally an industrial internship at a company or firm. The internships can be stipened or not depending on the company. In the final year there are 2 grand projects students have to do in the 7th and 8th semester under the college professors. Students can themselves do internships to improve their CV and gain experience.

Placement Experience

3.5

The college is preferred by many for its placement drive. Students are allowed to sit for placements from the 7th semester onwards. Companies have their own selection criteria and procedure to go with. Many private companies and few PSUs visit our college to recruit from the main core brances. On an average salary of 4.5lpa and highest of 24lpa students are recruited. Students if qualified can sit in as many interviews as they want. The placement percentage varies for different brances but on a average among the core brances around 60percent students get placed.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

Since this a government college its fees is comparatively less. The total college admission fees is around 25k After that yearly admission is 17k Semester exam fees around 3000 Hostel admission fees 5000 Hostel mess fees 2500 per month The admission fees and hostel fees has increased by around 1000rs since i took admission. The above mentioned fees are the updated ones as of 2024. As far as scholarships go there are various government need and merit based scholarship available. All the scholarships are applied through the National Scholarship Portal where different scholarships have different criteria. The college yearly awards scholarships to the topper of every branch along with medals and certificates. Scholarships like ishan uday and poor fund scholarships provide relief from college fees and provide yearly money to students for their expenses.

Campus Life

3.5

Campus life at Assam Engineering College in Guwahati is vibrant, with a strong emphasis on social engagement and club involvement. The college hosts various student clubs that cater to diverse interests, providing platforms for students to pursue hobbies and develop leadership skills. The college has teir ovent cultural fest called Pyrokinesis as well as technical fest called Udbhavanam held over the period of four days in around feb to march Infrastructure-wise, the campus is equipped with nine hostels, including facilities for both male and female students, along with amenities like common rooms and libraries. Overall, students report a positive experience, highlighting strong friendships and an enriching hostel life

Hostel Facilities

4

The college has nine hostels where 8 are boys hostel and one girls hostel since there are less girls as compared to boys. Hostel admission is taken on the college admission day itself. The hostel admission is 5k with mess dues around 2.5k. The hostels are very happening as all the sports and events happening are inter hostel. The mess is run by the super and the food is give 3times - breakfast lunch and dinner. The food is eatable as it varies everyday but overall its fine with non veg 5days and veg 2days a week and occasionally special fest days where special dishes are served.

Admission

I personally choose this college because this is the oldest engineering college in my state which means more faculty experience and more placement opportunities. Also, it is situated in the heart of the city so you get more exposure to work and gain experience. As compared to this college other colleges are new and have less experienced faculties and placement opportunities. I got this college in the first round itself as this was my first choice. To take admission here we have to clear the state engineering exam named CEE which is held once a year. It is an MCA-based exam of PCM subjects each carrying 160 marks to a total of 480 marks. Students in the top 400 of the general category easily get admission to AEC in the top core branches.

Faculty

3.5

The college comes under The Assam science and technology university which have 7 more engineering college under them throughout Assam. The curriculum and exam sysytem is set by them accordingly. The student to teacher ratio varies with different departments but as a whole it is pretty average considering that every 5 student gets one mentor. So the mento mentee ratio is 1:5. Most of the faculties are friendly only.As far as my mechanical faculty goes they are a bit strict but are helpful when needed. One semester in the college lasts around four and a half months during which three internal tests are comducted and one end semester examination. The marking system for the exams are pretty average but if you write even a few lines on a topic you are sure to get marks.
