What Students Say?
Likes
- Infrastructure since the campus is over 300 acres.
- The people who get admitted here are mostly very knowledgeable so the company we have is good.
Dislikes
- Since it is a government college the hostel rooms arent that of a good standard.
- The weather in this side of the state is hard to get used to considering extreme heat and rain
Course Curriculum Overview
Course curriculum is very based on the present need and is revised. Labs and workshops have an inclusive nature and are interesting. Problems in these courses are well defined and can be challenging but very apt.
Internships Opportunities
Intership opportunities are given at the end of the second year itself. Projects of every field is available ranging from IT to core. I would not have much idea of it since i am still in my second year
Placement Experience
Camous placements are the highlights of our college. You can start applying from your third year. Internships are also given after a round of tests. Average placement for mechanical is 1400000. Last year placements stood at 80 percent.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
Since it is a government college the tuition fee for the first year is a total of 1.4 lakhs. After this each semester fees is dependent on the course opted. For a mechanical degree every odd sem is nearly 70000 while an even semester fee is 80000.
Campus Life
NITK is known for its vibrant fests that include INCIDENT,our cultural fest, during the month of march, ENGINEER, our tech fest during the month of October and UDAAN, our beach fest during January. The college is known for its new library, huge buildings and the wide variety of sports like basketball, swimming, volleyball, etc.
Hostel Facilities
Im staying in the NITK girls hostel. It isn't a great room since it is a government college. Hot water is not available but for the weather it is bearable. The food at the mess is outsourced and is thus not bad. Sometimes the food is tasty but overall nutrition is less.
Admission
An NIT is always rated higher than other colleges apart from IITs. Any company would prefer IITs and NITs over a provate college. The cut offs are high and through JEE Mains, it needs a good score of atleast over 95 percentile to get in
Faculty
Nearly every single faculty member here is from an IIT or an equally prestiguous institute. They have immense knowledge in their field. Mechanical professors are strict in the 75 percent attendance mandate but otherwise guide us in major and minor problem statements. Exams are very hard and even the quizzes can be mind boggling. Course curriculum gets updated based on requirement. Failures in each course are quite a few since exams are set of a high standard.
