Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

I have always wanted to study engineering and I got to pursue my dream in this college by getting here to study in the electrical branch. The curriculum prepares us to be industry-ready and prepares by giving the knowledge required to work in an industry. The areas for improvement in the course curriculum and teaching methods are to increase the practicals as it is a very important part to be a industry-ready person.

Internships Opportunities

3.5

Currently, I am in 2nd year of Btech and as such we have not done any internships apart from a Social internship and I have heard that from the TPC(Training and Placement Cell) in our college various interships are offered in IIT's, Railway, IUCL, etc.

Placement Experience

3.5

From 7th semester (4th year) students become eligible for campus placements Tata ,Tata motors ,Vedantu and IUCL are some of the companies that visited our college recently. The highest package in our college was 25lakhs per annum and the average package is 4.5lakhs per annum. 55-60% of students get placements every year. I am aiming for campus placements after getting the degree and also if not i will try for entrance exam such as Gate to pursue further studies.

Fees and Financial Aid

The total yearly fees is about 20000 and all the other fees are included in it and for 4years it costs around 280000. The fees for all the different caste are same in our college. The college provides various scholarships such as poor fund scholarships and also there are NSP ST/SC scholarships,Ishanuday Scholarships and for girls there is Pragati scholarship. This is the description of our college

Campus Life

3.5

The name of the annual and technical festival is Pyrokinesis and it is held in the month of February . There are a wide range and accesibility of books and journals are also vast . The are various facilities and technological provisions within the classrooms such as blackboards and digital boards for the There are various sports and extracurricular activities offered on campus some of them are football, cricket, singing, drama etc. There are various student-run groups, clubs and student portals. Some student-run groups are-AEC helpdesk where every year a group is formed for helping the new students for taking admission in the college or regarding any doubts about the process. Some of the clubs are singing clubs known as JAM club ,drama club known as Mukha club etc.

Hostel Facilities

3

The facilities provided in the hostel rooms are 3 beds, 3 tables ,fans etc. Meal quality is average and there is a feast in the end of every month where we get to eat various types of dishes. Registration for hostel is done at the day of admission in the college and the hostel is very affordable if we compare to a rented room or PG.

Admission

I applied at Assam Engineering College and got admission in the first time and i choose this college above other colleges because it is the oldest engineering college in the northeast region and has a reputation in whole of Assam. I didn't got any rejection from other colleges because i applied at this college and was accepted in the first councelling. The admission process are as follows- First we have to pass an entrance examination which is CEE(Common Entrance Examination) to get into various engineering college all over Assam. And then the councelling process starts and we get alloted to colleges based on the ranks that we secured in the entrance examination Cutoffs for our college are 1-500ranks for General students ,1-2000ranks for ST plains students and 1-5000students for ST hills students

Faculty

3

There are 10-15 faculty for 90-100 students . The faculty to student relationship are good and the teachers are very helpful to the students . The faculties are very approachable and helps us to clear our doubts everytime. All the faculties are good and i like them all because of their good nature and good attitude . There are total four exams in one semester -3 class test and a end term examination the toughness of the exams are moderate and not all but maximum students pass the exam .

Placement Experience:

NIT Silchar has decent placement stat. Approx 75 percent student got placement from campus and they got decent package. In NIT Silchar from 7th semester students are eligible for placement and company comes whole year for recruiting. Approx 100 company visit the college throughout the year. In tech Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Walmart and more companies come. For core L&T, Adani, Tata Steel and more companies come. For service base Infosys, TCS, Wipro will come and give good offer. Highest package will come from tech company and that is 52lpa and average from all companies will lie from 10 to 12 lpa . My plans is that in my 4th year atleast I will get one job. If I don't get job then I will try from off campus or giving paper for government job

The placements here are actually decent. The average package for my branch was around 13.5 LPA last year and branches like CSE, EC and EI have a higher average package generally. The campus is visited by almost all of the top companies including Google, Adobe, Facebook, etc. The detailed placement records are available on the website of the institute. The percentage of students getting placed ranges anywhere between 70 percent to 92 percent. I plan to get an M.Tech degree after completing my B.Tech course from an IIT if possible.
