Course Curriculum Overview
The curriculum is quite comprehensive and with the policies of NEP coming in it's getting even better. The curriculum mandates three internships ( also known as SAI: Social, Academic, Industrial ) all these internships gives you a different perspective of the real world. Three internal exams are held each semester, and various presentations, vivas etc. make the schedule a bit hectic.
Internships Opportunities
The industrial internship in the final year is generally provided to every student by the Training and Placement cell. Mostly students do their internships in PSUs such as IOCL, OIL, NRL etc. Although there are many other options and yes, you can choose your own if you want to.
Placement Experience
The placement is good enough. Although less than NITs or IITs, if someone tries hard, they can even get into some of the PSUs which recruit directly from the college. The placements in the core branches are quite good. There is a placement cell in the college which handles your internships and placements. Although the scenario varies branchwise and yearwise, about 60-70 percent students are placed every year.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The fees is quite low, as compared to other engineering colleges, it is about 16,000 for the entire year, while a separate exam fees is taken from the students for the semester exams which is around 2000 per semester. Various govt. scholarship schemes such as Ishaan uday, NEC, etc. are availabe. And many students avail those. Among these scholarships Ishaan uday pays the highest (something near 80k a year). Other scholarships for SC/ST categories are also available.
Campus Life
There are a lot of clubs, a lot of social gatherings and a lot of events throughout the year. The main cultural and technical fest Pyrokinesis is one of the biggest in the entire north-east. It's that time of the year which every AECian longs for. There are over 20 clubs covering every aspect of engineering life. From games to robotics you name it, and there's a club for that. A student willing to pursue any field can really learn a lot from these clubs. As for the infrastructure it's not that well maintained but the student's have discovered there own ways to get through them.
Admission
I prepared for JEE although couldn't score enough to get into some NITs or IITs. As my preference was to get into a govt. College so the next best option was this. I appeared for CEE the entrance for getting into the govt. Engineeringcolleges in Assam. And I cleared it with a decent rank to get into this college.
Faculty
The college is under Assam Science and Technological University(ASTU). So the same curricullum is followed. One can check the branchwise/semester wise syllabus from the University website. As for the student to teacher ratio it's quite decent except for the first year when you are taught the common subjects. From second year onwards, once you enter you own branch, you develop a good relation with your teachers. The professors are quite good with most ofthem having P. hd degrees. However, there may be a little variations for different branches.
