Course Curriculum Overview
The course prescribed by Assam Science and Technology University follows the curriculum prescribed by AICTE and covers all the aspects of various branches in the college. The college has the branches- Mechanical, Civil, Electronics and Telecommunication, Electrical, Instrumentation, CS and Industrial and Production Engineering. The exams prepare the students to better themselves as an engineer in their respective disciplines but still the curriculum should focus on competitive exams as well.
Internships Opportunities
The college doesn't provide paid internships to the B.Tech students but has a provision for M.tech students. The internships provided are for developing one's technical knowledge and experience to be able to work in various fields. The Civil engineering department allows flexible internships for students for their all-round development.
Placement Experience
Various companies and PSUs offer placements to the students of AEC. Notable companies include- Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL), Oil India, ONGC, Tata Chemicals, Vedanta, Ashok Leyland, L&T, etc. The highest package offered till now is 14LPA by Assam Petrochemical Limited and NRL. Median packages are in the range of 5-6 LPA. I myself being a civil engineering student plan to focus more in competitive exams like GATE, CAT, MAT etc.

Campus Life
Campus life in college is pretty decent and enriching specially the hostel life. The hostel life invokes a sense of humbleness, discipline, management capabilities etc. I am a resident of H4 of AEC. Hostel rivalries are common in the college in all aspects be it sports, cultural, elections and what not. The college also has a diverse number of clubs like- Literary Club, Jam Club, Beathouse, Bordoisila, Robo Club, Automobile Club, Flashpoint etc. These clubs promote an all around development in the students. Classrooms in the college are fully equipped with projectors and smart boards for better teaching abilities.
Hostel Facilities
The Hostels allotment is given according to one's preference and in some cases according to CEE rank. The hostels have a gym, common room, table tennis or indoor sports room, a mess room etc. The rooms are spacious and from 2nd year onwards there are provisions of single rooms. The hostels also have 24×7 water facilities, wifi facility etc. The hostels are super affordable and monthly mess dues are around Rs 3000 and yearly dues are Rs 3000. The mess provides hygienic food but they are not of very great quality but does justice in this price range
Admission
Assam Engineering College is the top State Government College in the state. To get into the college we need to appear in an entrance examination called Combined Engineering Entrance Exam (CEE). Only the top students in CEE make it to AEC. The cutoffs are in a sense high compared to other colleges. To secure a seat in AEC, an unreserved category student should at least have a CEE rank of 700.
Faculty
The course followed in the college conforms to that prescribed by Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) l, in many ways it has a better perspective towards engineering but fails to provide an insight into competitive examinations. The exams are tough and well conducted to analyse the technical mindset of the students. Many students fail in the exams due to improper study methods or lack of study.
Other Applied Colleges
Assam Agricultural University - [AAU] | Bachelor of Fisheries Science [BFSc] (Aquaculture)
Got better opportunities in Assam Engineering College as well as wider scope
