Course Curriculum Overview
The course-work of research wasn't satisfactory. The curriculum did not cover any practical know-how. There was no focus on understanding the software and tools used in research in today's time. Teaching methods were traditional and boring and there was a two year delay on conduct of the course-work classes.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The tuition fee was negligible for our batch, however, it has been revised for the later batches. The university provided a scholarship of Rs 8,000 to campus students enrolled for Ph.D. No such scholarship was available for scholars studying in affiliated colleges. Classes were allotted to all the scholars who got to the main campus. JRFs/SRFs were given more classes, as the UGC funded them.
Campus Life
Since it was a Ph.D. programme, we generally did not have much to enjoy our campus life. Most of the time we were either engaged with some official duties like teaching, invigilation, enrolment, etc or we were busy with other assignments allotted by our supervisors, or with our research work. There were no social clubs or groups, however there were few informal and official WhatsApp groups in which we exchanged departmental information and stuff.
Admission
The minimum eligibility for the course was that the student must be a postgraduate or equivalent. There were two levels for screening of the candidates: 1) The student should qualify for the CRET written examination 2) Interview /Viva The application form was available online on the university's website. The application fee for General/OBC/EWS is Rs1800, while for SC/ST it is Rs 900. All reservation benefits are available to the concerned categories. The exam is usually conducted annually. The difficulty level of the CRET Phase I varies from moderate to difficult. My suggestion would be that the entrance exam should purely be based on merit.
Faculty
The faculty-to-student ratio was less, as the appointments for the faculty positions were delayed. The faculties are experienced and learned, however traditional methodologies are used in delivering lectures. Teachers are easily approachable and friendly. Senior faculties are also amicable.
