Securing PhD from University of Lucknow

Being NET qualified candidate I filled the phd admission form of Lucknow University and qualifying it was a cake walk as entrance exam was much easier than UGC NET exam. Curriculum for PhD is designed in a way that it develops and evaluates the scholars from every perspective academically and personally. Case studies in the coursework should be given more importance than the syllabus aspects. Admission forms are available every year around Oct-Nov and written exam for the same is conducted in Jan-Feb After that the qualified candidates are called for the interview in Mar-April

Internship opportunities are available for students. I got Chance to work with State Bank of India as an intern and got stipend of 15000 per month for a 3 month internship. Unpaid internships are available as well but you have to keep an eye on the website of the University.

After the completion of PhD degree if you are a JRF/SRF then there are high chances of getting placed as an assistant professor in the University itself. If a scholar gets his PhD degree only then he/she can apply in good institutes and other private universities where payscale is quite good. PhD degree also facilitates a person to move into other industries as well apart from academics.

For PhD Lucknow University fees is very much affordable if you have qualified JRF the research fellowship is also provided which creats an 'earning while learning' opportunity for the research scholars. At the time of admission, fees for PhD is 14260/- out of which concession of 4000 is provided as per the government. So the fees that you pay is 10260/- per year.

University has its remote access to tagore library and research papers can be checked for plagiarism on drillbit portal provided by the University. Workshops and seminars and conducted on regular basis. Scholars are also the part of social awareness campaigns and other clubs.

I applied for Lucknow University only as my UG and PG degrees are from the University itself. Eligibility - Masters in the subject with 50% marks(General category) in which you want to pursue your PhD. Exam pattern- Written exam and personal interview. If you are NET qualified then 5 extra marks are allotted and if you are JRF 10 extra marks are allotted in the interview. Cutoff can vary depending on the no of seats and level of the written exam.

Faculty-student ratio: Depends on the no. Of phd seats under each professor. Batches can vary from 10-14 scholar in every session. Dr. Sanjay Medhavi and Prof. KK shukla are very experienced and learned professors and have a very calm and composed nature After the admission 6 months course work is conducted and 2 months later coursework exam is conducted in which every scholar gets qualified provided he has attended the coursework regularly.

Admission in PhD has two stages- 1. Written exam: objective/MCQs, securing 50% is mandatory for qualifying 2. Personal Interview: Scholar has to prepare a synopsis on the topic of his choice and panel asks the questions about the topic.

University of Lucknow is has large campus of 225 acres and there is canteen for almost every department. Hostel timings are quite flexible but you can't enter after 9 pm in the hostel. Hangouts places near University includes - Royal cafe, woodpecker, the terrace grill, dramatic club.
