Remarks
My overall experience of the Management was 'Quite Satisfactory' in terms of lectures, seminars, events, extra-curricular activites, examinations, faculty members and so on.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is semester based. There are 2 semesters in a year, total of 4 semesters. For every second year student, be it Bachelors or Masters, there was an academic tour is organised for atleast 7 days. The 4th semester comprises of one report of 200 marks for the tour report along with the viva. The college used to organise small events, placement cells, etc for Inter- College level too.
Placement Experience
Our College arranged many internship and placement opportunities for the last year students as well as for the 1st year students. They would even call the alumni for the placements. The companies were mostly from Travel Industry such as Thomas Cook, MakeMyTrip and from Hospitality, they were Hyatt, Hilton and OYO. The Communication and Personality Enhancement classes were given to the students to prepare them for the GDs, P. I.
College Events
The College used to held an Inter-College event named Sanskriti-Surbhi every year which included the students from other Colleges too. We also celebrate World Tourism Day on September 27 every year. It involves various competitions such as Debate, Quiz, Rangoli, PowerPoint Presentations, etc.
Fee Structure And Facilities
The fee structure of Masters in Tourism and Travel Management is quite cheaper than other courses offered by the University. The fee is taken semester wise via cash, Demand Draft or online payment directly from their website. Yes, they provide full transparency in the fee-breakdown.
Fees and Financial Aid
No, I didn't apply for any scholarship or education loan as the fees for the course and the hostel was a lot cheaper than any other college and it was affordable.
Campus Life
The College had the equal ratio on the basis of gender. As our course was a part of Tourism and Travel Industry, so students from all over the places were there- Thailand, Nepal, Mauritius, Sweden, etc. All the students of every religion, caste, status, color are welcome on the campus.
Hostel Facilities
Yes, I opted for the Hostel as I came from another state. The name of the Hostel was 'Management Girls' Hostel' now it has been changed to 'Nivedita Hall'. It has 90 rooms on double sharing basis. The roommates were chosen randomly on the basis of 'first-come-first-serve'. The fees was paid on yearly basis. We had to change the room every year because we had to go through the counselling process from the start for the hostel every year. The fees was collected either in cash or DD.
Alumni/Alumna
We have always maintained a network between the alumni and the existing students. The senior students have always supported their juniors in terms of choosing their career, sometimes they have even offered counselling via PowerPoint Presentations and Seminars sharing their experiences.
Admission
I opted for Tourism and Travel management as University of Lucknow falls in the Top 10 best colleges for Tourism studies. I applied online for LUMAT-2017 on 2nd May, 2017 and was shortlisted for the Personal Interview with one of the faculty members. Few days later the list of students along with their rank was displayed on the college website upto 1200 and I ranked 290. The counselling was scheduled on 7th July, 2017.
Faculty
Almost all the faculty members were professionals who had their experience in various fields be it Aviation, Travel industry, Hospitality etc. They used to share their raw experiences with us and asked what they did wrong and how would they have managed the situation. They are elite personalities.
