What Students Say
Likes
- We don't need to buy books or download PDFs every sem; the library has all the required books available.
- The staff at our college is quite friendly and helpful. Honestly, I am flabbergasted that I had to jot this point down just to highlight something positive about the college.
Dislikes
- The syllabus is never completed on regular days and is rushed towards the end, which is common in most colleges, so it might be acceptable.
- Most teachers are not fluent in English, which isn't beneficial because students come from different states and may not understand the regional language.
- And here comes the most important issue. I recently found out some teachers just watch YouTube videos, take notes from there and pass them to us in the class. If I wanted to learn from YouTube, why attend lectures?
Course Curriculum Overview
We have occasional training classes, such as value added training (VAT) focused on website development. At the conclusion, they assign group or individual projects, which is quite beneficial. Additionally we participate in hackathons where teachers are also very supportive. The frequency of exams is quite high, leaving little room to catch one's breath. Now, regarding exams at our college under the Makaut University, the question pattern is highly questionable. The topics you deem important seldom appear, while obscure and impractical questions dominate. Maths paper includes theoretical questions, and there are random, nonsensical queries. The lack of a coherent pattern renders the exams largely ineffective. And don't even get me started on how they check our answer scripts. My goodness, you'll never recieve what you would expect.
Internships Opportunities
I have just started my third year, so I don't have much information about the Internships yet. From what I've heard from our seniors, the Internship opportunities aren't that great. We'll probably have to find them ourselves. And if you ask about the last two years, nah, none was available.
Placement Experience
From I guess the end of 3rd year, students become eligible for campus placements. Not considering our college specifically, but the name "Techno" is known, and therefore we do get good companies... Infosys being one of them. Now cracking the job is completely upto you. The highest package till date is around 15 lpa; was of a student who got a job in Amazon.
Fees and Financial Aid
The course fees are around 5 lakhs. Exam fees are approximately 1200 per semester. There are no high-profile scholarships available, though there are scholarships offered by the West Bengal Government, but none specific to our college.
Campus Life
Nope. Nothing at all- no extravagant fests, no celebrities performing, nothing like that. They lowkey celebrate a few festivals like Saraswati Puja, Vishwakarma Puja. They still enforce a dress code for those low grade fests... specifying what is and isn't allowed, etc. And they still segregate spots for girls and boys. I mean, are you kidding me? Are we in kindergarten? No AC in the classrooms, no digital boards, cctvs work only during the exams, I mean at this point I should just give up. We do have an Annual sports day kinda thing, which isn't fun anyways, so no point in attending that as well. Last one, the food in the canteen is gross. I said what I said.
Admission
It's absolutely incredible. No questions asked, nothing at all, and boom, your admission is complete. They'll lure you in by claiming there are very few seats available for specific courses- mind you, they're lying. They'll pretend as if your JEE rank is crucial. A friend of mine didn't even take the JEE exams and still she didn't have to give any sort of entrance exam, and is studying engineering alongside us..... amusing, isn't it?
Faculty
The faculty is quite helpful, I must say. If you ask them a question 100 times, they'll patiently explain it to you 100 times as well. They are approachable too, without a doubt. Moreover, considering there are 70 students in our class and an average of 25 students are absent almost everyday, the teachers somehow manage to focus on each student's progress.
