JMC- worth the hype?

Personally, the pers of the course as set by DU are interesting and well encompassing. The curriculum of psychology is vast and varied which is well absorbed by the set papers of the Delhi University. The papers are well differentated as to not lead to repetition of the same material. However, the curriculum of these papers are sometimes very unnecessary and ill-defined.(Eg: positive thinking in psotive psychology was a semi scientific topic with very little research and study material) . The reconfiguration of syllabi under NEP has not been solidified completely and there is a lot of lingering confusion regarding the study material. As far as the real world application is concerned, the curriculum at college is more applicable than CBSE curriculum but only when you actually attend classes and engage in colloborative discussions. The exams are taken twice a year. But there are a billion internals going on at all times and won't leave you a minute spare from tests and assignments.

For psychology students, the internships are scant. Only courses (often paid) are suggested by teachers. There is a provision in NEP under the SEC subject to provide internships, however none such internships as of yet, have been arranged. There is usually just community service which demands long hours and dometimes illogical work or no work at all in exchange for a certificate. The placement cell is active and posts internship opportunities but these are mainly for Bcom students or students of economics. The average stiped claimed by the college is 15k.

Jesus and Mary College typically allows students to become eligible for campus placements starting from the fifth semester of their undergraduate programs. The companies visiting for placements, along with the number of offers made, may vary each year. Some common companies that have visited the University of Delhi for placements in the past include Wipro, TCS, Deloitte, Infosys, Accenture, IBM, and many more. The number of offers made can also vary each year. The average salary is 6.5 LPA and the highest saley was 21 lacs per year. The number of offers made vary from year to year. However, many students, especially arts students failed to be placed. Especially if they don't have a masters degree.

The cost of education is minimal in DU, espacially as compared to the qulaity of education provided. The fees is only 2100 for the year with an additional fees if around 1500-1800 twice a year for the exam fee. Scholarships and concessions are given to reserved candidates. Campus employment takes place with the average package of 6.5 LPA and avergae stipend of 15k. These opportunities are however scant at best. There are also a number of academic cash rewards given to toppers.

There's an annual fest of JMC called Montage, which typically lasts for two to three days and a number if stars are invited. Montage isn't one if the best fests if DU, but i had a lot if fun it. DJ Sumit Sethi and the Laung da Ladhkara singer Jassi was invited. A number of department fests also take place which are filled with exciting competitions and acticities. The stalls have been disallowed for department and society fests which has dulled such fests. The library of JMC is three floored and the only drawback is tge snootiness of librarian who doesn't allow anyone without an ID to enter. Otger than that, the library is very well acquainted with all material and journals. There are computers placed for students to use. The classes too have projectors which are used on a daily basis by teachers. The extra curriculars are often through department and society acticities if the person decide to participate actively. There are many societues encompassing many talents and skills.

The eligibility of course is minimum, you must have oassed CBSE class 12th exam with 60% marks. There is a 50% reservation for students of many castes, economic sections and other groups like disabled section, sports and talents. This however sky rockets the cut offs for general students and decreases their chances of getting in these colleges. In JMC , there's a 50% resrvation for cristian students ho have to go through an additinal personal interview phase. All students have to give the CUET-UG exam and score enogh marks to clear the cut off. The cutiff for genral students in JMC was around 785 marks out of 800. A very small proportion of students and able to clear this high cutoff.

The teachers in JMC are extremely qualified and supportive. Almost all teachers encourage a personal level involvement. We are also provided with mentors - who are teachers we can contact anytime we face any college relayed or personal problem. The teachers are also extremely approachable and warm. They solve the tiniest of doubts and initiate class level discussioons so that eceryine can voice their opinions. Teachers go beyond the syllabus and suggest extra readings and movies etc to help understanding . There is a shared effort to make assignments and learning process more innivative and imclsuive. The only issue is the students to techers ratio. A class ubder NEP has 80 students. The number is veru big for ine yeacher to handle and provide individual attention to. Hence, sime students get sidelined and often find themselves at a loss because they are not given special attention when needed. It can also be daunting for more introvereted people to ask questions in a class of 80.
