Remarks
The college meets up expectations by an average student. Offers decent placement. But not that satisfied yet.
Entrance Preview
The College is one of the top 5 engineering colleges in West Bengal, top 3 among private colleges in terms of Placement. Infrastructure is good, so are the faculty. I had opted for Computer Science and Engineering and hence zeroed to the private colleges as I was an average student and had a rank in the 5000's in WBJEE. Placement was better off, with TCS as the main recruiter while a few got good packages from Microsoft and McAfee. Almost 60-70 % get placed in 2018.
Course Curriculum Overview
Although the curriculum followed by MAKAUT/WBUT was outdated by 7-8 years, the college had some serious arrangements. The first year passed in a flick. The real deal starts when you enter your respective departments. FSP classes are arranged for a 2 month period. All departmental classes followed a curriculum laid by the college with lots of other classes other than the syllabus usually job oriented. English Labs are also added to improve communication skills. Yet other subjects were as lenient. You could pass with an 8 point in non-departmental subjects with a little knowledge. No pressure. Lately, the syllabus had been revised by Makaut.
Internships Opportunities
Don't think there was any if present I am not aware of it. I am still in 2nd year and have not come across any. Workshops are regularly arranged.
Placement Experience
The College ranks among top 3 in terms of Placements. TCS is the main recruiter with packages starting as low as 4 lpa to 9 lpa. Other companies like Microsoft and McAfee offered some 13 lpa to a few maybe one or two, among the highest packages offered in the college.
College Events
The odd semesters does not witness any event other than the freshers, a few workshops and CSE UNITED, only for CS department. The even semesters forsee bigger events like EDGE, the second largest techno-management fest in WB, Anakhronos, a cultural event, Philanthropia, a social event, Eclectica, some writers-no-idea. Workshops are held every week. You get to join your chosen clubs like ROBO-Palz robot club, Samaritans, etc .....
Fee Structure And Facilities
Since it is a private institution, fees are somewhere above feasible, if not expensive. Fees range around 46k to 60k(first 2 semesters) per semester for Non-TFW students. There are no additional fees during the semester other than exam fees (?1200). TFW students have their tuition fees waived.
Fees and Financial Aid
A branch of Punjab National Bank is within the campus where you can apply for the loan. No other scholarships are offered by the College except the TFW scheme by MAKAUT (around 10 students per department).
Campus Life
There are some 120+ students + another 30 from lateral in our batch. Too much crowd. Among them 75% are boys. We get to notice the extracurricular activities in the 2nd semester mostly. Cricket tournaments, robot making workshops and contest in Edge. Social events by Smaaritans group. The literary events are organized by Eclectica.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facilities are provided by the college too, though you can opt out of it. The hostel is near to the college, mess food is worse as expected. Generally, you would opt out if it and settle with a few batchmates in a rented flat after the first Semester itself.
Alumni/Alumna
The CSE United held in late December is one among bringing a large network of alumni to the college. Other than that, it was a disappointment
Exam Structure
A semester has 2 unit test after which a lab exam and finally the semester exams. Every Internals were of 25 marks each. But they weren't of any concern, as a passing marks would fetch us a good grade. The lab exams were to taken up seriously as they fetched 4 credit points. Also with MAKAUT revamping the curriculum, compulsory quizzes and presentations and terms papers were added and accounted for 30 marks for the theory. The semester theory exams were of 70 marks. The whole theory carried 2 credit points. Along with them, a separate 100 marks evaluation is to be done for extra curricular activities, with points rewarded for every activity and summed up in the semester end.
Admission
I had joined up through my WBJEE ranks, though anyone with a JEE MAINs rank can also apply for the college. Above that, they also take admission through Management Quota In the case of WBJEE: First, you have to go all through the procedures in WBJEE councils. Sign up for Onile counseling, fill up your preferences and wait for the subsequent sessions. When you finally had your college selected, they will give you some document to show up to the college and register yourself for admission within a deadline by paying the first Semester fees along with it. That's it, you get all the documents thereafter. The whole process takes up 1 and a half month. In case you are a JEE mains rank holder you have to go through the same process in JEE counseling more or less. As for management quota, I don't have any idea regarding that.
Faculty
Of all the departments, I found the faculty of the CS department to be the strictest. Never checked anyone's qualification, but all of the professors were good at teaching the subject. Along with it, the faculty for FSP's and other classes were also good but not encouraging at all.
