Course Curriculum Overview
Starting with the curriculum of mass communication, it was very nice and included most of the aspects of mass communication and journalism. The curriculum also had given importance to project team works and practical learning. Every semester had practical labs along with the theory subject. Our curriculum also had drawbacks, many new software's and aspects of media which are important for today's market were not taught and weren't event on the syllabus. This was a major setback. Our curriculum was divided into 6 semesters over a span of 3 years. Each semester had one Internal Examination (20 marks), one End semester exam (70 marks) and 10 marks based on projects and assignments. We even had a dissertation paper in the last semester, where we had to submit a research work.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placements from 5th semester onwards. Speaking of the mass communication placements it was really terrible, we didn't receive the company's we were told wound come for placements. All of our placement opportunities were of general streams mostly for b.com courses. The highest package was offer 3 LPA form our class from a company which was not very popular. Most of the students from our course is opting for master degree. Personally I am looking for internship opportunities on various platforms.
Fees and Financial Aid
Our course fee was 75,000 per semester and the complete course was around 4 lakhs for 3 years. There was no hike in the course fee during our course time. Our course fee was taken in the starting of a semester and failing to pay the fees within 15 days our attendance won't be recorded and additionally we had to give 1000-2000 Rs. fine. The 6th semester had an additional fees of 5000 for Alumni Association. There was no scope of campus employment during our course time. There were several scholarships available for weaker economy section and around 70% of the tuition fees was waived.
Campus Life
Our college is well equipped with new technologies in classroom which includes computer with internet connectivity, and a digital board which helps in visually learning. Our library is well equipped with many course books and journals along with e-books and international library database. Our college have various departmental and clubs fests which span all over the year. Our Mass Communication departmental fest is named XavComm and the overall university fest (main) is named Xavrang. Xavrang is usually held in the month of February. Our college also have many clubs for various activities including photography, debate, and cultural activities. It also have a student board which looks after the welfare of the students.
Admission
Our eligibility for the mass communication course was 60% in +12 examination with any course. Our application could be found on our university website (www.sxuk.com). The last date of application is generally around the mid of May. Each application fees is Rs. 1000 per course. After the application an entrance test is taken based on the course application. The entrance was pretty easy and mainly had general knowledge questions. The entrance exam was held in online mode. After the exam a selection list is given out based on the entrance test and +12 marks
Faculty
Department of Mass Communication faculty consisted of 8 professors. Most of the professors were young and were easy to interact with. All the faculty members were specialized in various mass communication fields and each one of them was a PhD. Holder. Overall the faculty was very nice and were wonderful teachers, they didn't only made us teach traditionally but also implemented new teaching methods along with interactive activities and group projects. The faculty was very friendly and outside class hours they were like friends to us. They were very good mentors and helped us in everything related to studies and many things outside academics as well.
