What Students Say
Likes
- Faculty is highly qualified. The teaching and learning process is very good. Moreover the teacher student ratio is apt and there is no shortage of teachers.
- The focus is not only on rote learning. The course at uils offers a variety of committes for students to learn more practically.
- The environment is quite good where students can have open interactions. Socialisation peeks during student elections which in themselves are a big part of campus life.pus
Dislikes
- The infrastructure is not enough for the students to be accommodated. 1st years have to attend classes in separate building. Construction is undergoing and maybe in 1 or 2 years this problem can be solved.
- The department does not offer enough placement opportunity. With such a high fees there should be some placement.
- There is a certain showoff culture. People are are not very chill. The department needs a cool down
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is good and has both good and bad sides.Good thing is that the Curriculum is inclusive and covers all aspects in their entirety. Moreover the students also have subjects like moot court and nukkad natak in 5th year which improves their practical skills. One more thing is that though the Curriculum does not give practical knowledge as much in initial years of the degree but the gap is filled by the societies of the department like moot court society and adr ccl board etc. There is good balance between ba subjects and law subjects as uils offers a combined course.
Internships Opportunities
Uils does not offer internships by themselves. Students have to look for themselves on their own. There is a carrer development cell which sometimes brings to notice the internships. This is an aspect uils needs to work on. students generally do internships under lawyers they know already.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees is definitely on a higher end. It is acceptable that law is expensive all over India but being a state university as well as a govt institution our department needs to work on decreasing the fees. Moreover every year some hike is seen in the fees. If a student being a hostelite wants to complete his degree of ballb from panjab university it will cost him between 10 to 13 lakhs for 5 years. Scholarship and fee remission is only available to a small portion of students.EWS with less than 2.5 lakhs annual income can get Scholarship. Toppers of each batch can also get Scholarship. Campus employment culture is not there in uils.
Campus Life
Uils conducts drishyam as cultural fest and akhaada as Sports Fest alternatively every year. University offers many Fests at department and University Level both. Jhankar scitron vimarsh agaaz are some major fests that are held during Feb March time in the campus. Many celebrities come and perform. The University library is very big and has many books . It has many books that are very very old upto 500 years old also as University is also very old. Campus has a main Sports ground an archery ground and shooting range and swimming pool and tennis court as well . Almost facility for all the major Sports is there in University. Many student parties are active in panjab university and they have great impact on panjab university students. Clubs and societies are there a t department levels. The campus is Great and one can enjoy a lot here. Bonus tip is that student centre is a must watch and Gandhi bhawan maggi chai is unskippable at late nights.
Hostel Facilities
Girls Hostel are very good . Most of the boys hostel are in poor condition. Rooms are small and cleaning is not there. Washrooms are not well maintained and need rennovation . Food is available in mess and canteen but quality is not good regularly. Sometimes good and bad sometimes. One can order online and eat at student centre if he doesn't like. Hostel fee is rs 6000 approx for 6 months and mess and canteen expense are separate from this. International hostel fee is more and facility is also more there.
Admission
The course is open for students who have passed class 12 examination. Every year forms are out on the site of uglaw.puchd.ac.in and notice is there on uils site. The fees for entrance test is less than 3000rs. The forms are out by March end and entrance exam takes place by April end. Reservation of seats is there for sc, bc, st, single girl child ,pwd, Sports, nri, freedom fighter family and defense etc. More categories and details can be found in prospectus available on uils website. The exam has total 100 questions of 1 marks each and 0.25 negative marking with 2 hours time to complete. Exam is in mcq format and includes general awareness, maths ,science ,contracts law ,torts law, legal maxims questions in shuffled manner. Further bifurcation of the general awareness is available on internet and can be prepared through the book "universal". I personally took coaching from sihmar law classes and that helped. admission is based on 12th and entrance result. Overall good process.
Faculty
Faculty members are highly qualified. Most of them hold phd degree in their subject. The teachers try their best to complete the syllabus from their end.one thing is that teachers are less according to strength of students. Moreover many teachers are also coordinator of different clubs and societies which promotes a healthy relationship between teachers and students. Overall UILS panjab university has a great faculty.
