UILS Student Review

The option of choosing Major Minor subjects, at the end all of which is relevant in the field of law may it be sociology, English, history, economics etc. To prepare for the real world, work on studying law subjects with more emphasis and dedication, and in every sem here for the initial yeard of this 5 year course, atleast 2-3 law subjects are there.

The college has a Career development cell and has provided good internships with SLSA, HRC this year. But the placement factor is still under development here, people are mostly targeting Judiciary in UILS and not much placements can be expected.

The university fees and deptt. funds fees together costs around 1.25 Lakh per year. There is a concession for the Economically weaker sections or reserved categories and costs slightly less to them but not a lot of difference.

So this campus offers a LOT of fests, competitions and social activities. Situated in Panjab University, you can participate in the 4 big fests of PU, and other than that each deptt. like UILS have their own sports and cultural fests. UILS has annual Intra department competitions as well namely Intra moot court, Intra mediation, Intra client counselling and arbitral award writing, and trial advocacy. Library collection is amazing in UILS but you can go to AC joshi library here in PU as well. Technological provisions are normal, not too high tech or advanced. A lot of societies are also there in Uils.

The hostel facility is normal, hostel no. 1-4 are old, so fhe infrastructure is old but the new ones, especially the ones in south campus are very good in terms of infrastructure and space. Hostel is alloted on merit basis and usually the cut off is very high. You can also rent a PG in sector 15 as it is most convenient for to-and-fro from college.

I didn't apply to any other college after CLAT because UILS has really good reviews over all as a law college esp. in Punjab and regions around it. I don't regret coming here, as there are opportunities which if taken good advantage of, can take us to places. We need to give an entrance test, in order to enter the college. 50 percent weightage is for grade 12 percentage and the remaining is for the entrance test marks. The test is of 100 marks compromising of static GK, analytical reasoning and English. Cut off is usually above 70 for general category.

Faculty to student ratio is 1:60. Faculty is approachable as teachers help out in case of exams, internals, and they are cooperative. Our director Dr. Shruti Bedi is a genius when it comes to handling the day-to-day activities of Department, and makes sure enough opportunities are availed by students. There are MSTs once every semester and then the end-sem exams. The course curriculum is well curated, and we have now the choice of opting major minors, like history, economics and english. We also study a new lucrative subject every semester like crime deviance and society, UNGP. The curriculum is very much relevant to law.

there is no hostel timings, for both girls and boys it is open 24/7. Famous places to hangout is the STUC, Gandhi bhavan area, and in UILS is its famouse lawn, the newly opened Yaraana restaurant and occasionally the classroom as well. The college is pretty safe.
