Life at IIT Patna

The course curriculum certainly needs improvisation while I do not condemn teaching the traditional methods but modern day technologies should be blended. As an example, in today's coding culture students prefer using languages like C++ or Java whereas we were taught C in our college. Modern day engineering drawings are done on Auto-CAD which should be taught alongside on paper drawing.

Intership opportunities are great for circuital branches. For othe branches it might be a bit difficult on campus. Our recent internship drive shows people getting internships on companies like Sprinklr. Core internships are difficult although there are research interns.

The placements of my college are pretty decent. The average placement was around 23 LPA. Companies visit for both IT and core placements in our campuses. Companies like Google, Oracle, Atlassian, Samsung, Mercedes, Goldman Sachs have visted us in the past years. The highest CTC offered was 137 LPA in the season of 2021-2022.

The tution fees of our college is 1 Lakh Rupees per semester which is exempted if you are an SC or ST. The total fees sums up to about 1.5 Lakhs. Financial aid and scholarships are available mostly based on economic status. Campus placement opportunities are great the average package is nearly 23 LPA and highest packages have reached aroung 1 Cr in the past years.

Campus life experience is very good. The autumn semester is lined up with a lot of fests and activities including Infinto (our sports fest), Celesta (techno-management fest), TedX, Reverberance and a lot more. There are many active cultural and tech clubs which organise various activities for students. The sports facilities are good but not of the level of other 1st gen or 2nd gen IITs. And we have a great central library upcoming although the present one is also amazing.

Hostel facilities are decent. You get the basic facilities and the hygeine could be considered decent. Food in our mess can also be labelled decent although there is a lot of scope for improvisation. The menu has a decent variety and non-veg food is served 4 days a week.

Since it is an IIT, one needs to qualify the prestigious JEE Advanced to get into this college. I personally didn't avail any reservation benefits but surely the systems exist and are well known. The application happens after the allotment through JoSAA counselling after which you need to be present on the registration date in campus. The registration process is not a smooth one with forms and proof of payment to be shown multiple times which is required to be done online beforehand.

Highly qualified faculty members with many PhD holders from prestigious colleges both in India and abroad. The faculty to student ratio is very low with one faculty teaching to a class of almost 300 students (in the first year). Not highly approachable due to this. Although teaching assistants (TAs) are assigned group-wise with one group having around 40 students.
