Likes

A large campus (about 500 acres) with a decent level of greenery something not to be found in cities, free healthcare facilities, internet facilities in hostels through LAN.
Great coding culture and a lot of clubs and activities for students to do based on their interests.
Nice peer group with people coming from different corners of our country. Helps you to learn about the diverse cultures present in our nation.

Dislikes

Not so good hostel mess, less options of food outlets inside campus.
Not so good sports facilities compared to other IITs.
College located about 40km from the main city Patna in Bihta. Nothing much around the college.

Course Curriculum Overview

The course curriculum certainly needs improvisation while I do not condemn teaching the traditional methods but modern day technologies should be blended. As an example, in today's coding culture students prefer using languages like C++ or Java whereas we were taught C in our college. Modern day engineering drawings are done on Auto-CAD which should be taught alongside on paper drawing.

Internships Opportunities

Intership opportunities are great for circuital branches. For othe branches it might be a bit difficult on campus. Our recent internship drive shows people getting internships on companies like Sprinklr. Core internships are difficult although there are research interns.

Placement Experience

The placements of my college are pretty decent. The average placement was around 23 LPA. Companies visit for both IT and core placements in our campuses. Companies like Google, Oracle, Atlassian, Samsung, Mercedes, Goldman Sachs have visted us in the past years. The highest CTC offered was 137 LPA in the season of 2021-2022.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fees of our college is 1 Lakh Rupees per semester which is exempted if you are an SC or ST. The total fees sums up to about 1.5 Lakhs. Financial aid and scholarships are available mostly based on economic status. Campus placement opportunities are great the average package is nearly 23 LPA and highest packages have reached aroung 1 Cr in the past years.

Campus Life

Campus life experience is very good. The autumn semester is lined up with a lot of fests and activities including Infinto (our sports fest), Celesta (techno-management fest), TedX, Reverberance and a lot more. There are many active cultural and tech clubs which organise various activities for students. The sports facilities are good but not of the level of other 1st gen or 2nd gen IITs. And we have a great central library upcoming although the present one is also amazing.

Hostel Facilities

Hostel facilities are decent. You get the basic facilities and the hygeine could be considered decent. Food in our mess can also be labelled decent although there is a lot of scope for improvisation. The menu has a decent variety and non-veg food is served 4 days a week.

Hostel Fee: INR 5000 per year

Admission

Since it is an IIT, one needs to qualify the prestigious JEE Advanced to get into this college. I personally didn't avail any reservation benefits but surely the systems exist and are well known. The application happens after the allotment through JoSAA counselling after which you need to be present on the registration date in campus. The registration process is not a smooth one with forms and proof of payment to be shown multiple times which is required to be done online beforehand.

Faculty

Highly qualified faculty members with many PhD holders from prestigious colleges both in India and abroad. The faculty to student ratio is very low with one faculty teaching to a class of almost 300 students (in the first year). Not highly approachable due to this. Although teaching assistants (TAs) are assigned group-wise with one group having around 40 students.

Company take maximum 2-3 students form my branch.Highest Placement is approx 20lpa and average placement is 4-5lpa .10-15 percent students are placed. Honest student review of NIT Patna.

Placement Experience:

Placements are in my college starts from 7th semester. Core electrical engineering placements are limited, and mostly IT And specialisation Branches get more placement opportunities. The average package in my college is moderate and also depends on skill. Many students NIT Patna prefer the GATE examination and higher studies. If no campus placement is offered to me then I will plan to continue my family business and after getting my degree, I will join a good company and save money to invest in a good running business

We do get campus visit from some start ups and mass recruiters and highest package was 7 lakh while average is 4 lpa I don't know this much I am still a first year but as per our faculty and I missed orientation so of course I don't these things yet but I am trying to figure out as well

Admission:

I got admission through merit list after 12th science. You have to register on gtu website for that and should pay form fees. Then you ask for selecting colleges and also courses which you have desire. You get 3 chances if you not getting in first slot.

BS in AI-CS at IITP revolutionizing Indian tech sector

I was already pursuing my B Tech degree in the College of Agricultural Engineering and Technology OUAT Bhubaneswar. This college allows you to take admission in BS alongwith a B. Tech or any other degree(NEP 2020 policy). I appeared in NEET 2024 and qualified it with a score of 396/720. I shared my NEET score card when I applied to take admission in BS program. You can take admission through JEE or CUET or any other significant national level or statelevel entrance exams. If you have my appeared in any significant national or statelevel entrance exams after 12th, you can appear in IIT-SAT exam for taking admission in this course, but mathematics is mandatory. Maths should be a subject during your 12th. I visited the official website of IIT Patna, downloaded the brochure for taking admission in BS program in AI-CS. Then I contacted the admission team mentioned in the brochure. They guided me about the admission process. You need 10th and 12th marksheet, passport size photocopyz adhaar card, income certificate, resident certificate, etc, upload all the mentioned documents in pdf format in the correct order, send it to their email, then courier the documents in the given address, then after payment of fees you are a student of IIT Patna BS program and you will get an ID card of IIT Patna BS program after some days delivered to your address. The admission was smooth, but you have to keep yourself up-to-date and check your WhatsApp, messages and gamil/Outlook regularly to get the information. IIT Patna is very best in India. According to NIRF ranking 2025, IIT Patna is ranked 36th in the overall category, and 39th in the research institutes category. In the India Today rankings 2024, it was ranked 9th in the category of colleges. Admission process was very smooth, firstly you apply / registration in B.Sc (CSDA) course. IIT Patna Through An Honest Insider's Perspective
