What Students Say
Likes
- I really liked the campus. It is big and has trees everywhere. You will really liked it if you like nature.
- I like the college life here. The events conducted by Thapar are also good specially Saturnalia.
- Also the teachers are fine. They are always eager to help you.
Dislikes
- I do not like the fact that placements are declining every year.
- Hostel accomodations are expensive. You also have to pay mess fee. Yet, the food is not good
Course Curriculum Overview
Curriculum is also fine. It's the same curriculum that is followed in IITs and other big colleges. You need not worry about that. Teachers will help you prepare you properly for your semester exams is lectures. Besides, we have Labs for hands on experience and even tutorials wherein we practice questions, solve doubts and basically prepare better for the exams.
Internships Opportunities
Various companies like TCS, Adobe, Samsung, Delloite and many more visit the campus during internship season. As I have discussed earlier, you will be allowed to interview for big companies only if you have a good cgpa. However, you getting the internship depends on your skills and personality development.
Placement Experience
Placements start by end of 3rd year. You can interview for companies but it is based on your CGPA. Only students with high CGPA get to interview for big companies. So make sure you maintain your CGPA. Also practice your skillsets. They are very essential for placements. About 70% students get placed every year and the average package is around 7 lpa. Though package can go as high as 40 lpa. It all depends on your hardwork, determination and preparation.
Fees and Financial Aid
In my opinion, fees is a bit much. It increases every semester. Total cost of B.Tech. here is around 25 lakhs for branches other than computer related ones. For these branches, the total cost is around 30 lakhs. But yes Thapar does provide scholarships to its deserving students. Scholarships are provided to students who apply for them on basis of merit and merit cum means. Preference is given to single girl child. Placement is decreasing recently which is something to be worried about. Internships start from 3rd year. Many good companies like Adobe, Samsung, TCS , etc. visit Thapar so even with the decline in placements if you maintain a good CGPA and have a good skill set you can get placed easily. Also practice your interview skills.
Campus Life
Campus Life here is great. There are great spots to hangout like Nirvana, Skywalk or OAT. These are great places to hangout with your friends. Cos Market has all your daily essential shops like stationary, cosmetics, parlour, etc. It also has some great food shops with variety of foods. There are various societies each of different type like tech societies, literary societies, dance societies, etc. You can join them based on your interests. They are great for meeting new people, making connections and developing new skills. The major fest at Thapar is Saturnalia, a fest full of concerts, comedy shows, music, food and stuff. Singers like Mohit Chauhan, Gajendra Verma, etc. have performed at Sat. It is an event to remember. We also have Thapar Food Fest (TFF), where you have variety of foods to eat and enjoy with a concert. Last year, Twin Strings performed at TFF. Many other events are organised by college societies for your enjoyment.
Hostel Facilities
Rooms provided are really good. You can also get ones with attached washrooms which really reduces the hassle of common washrooms. The only issue is the mess food. Menu is same every week and quality and taste of food is not good which makes you order food almost always. The hostel fees in kind of expensive , mess fee is affordable.
Admission
Thapar takes admission based on your score in class 12th Boards and also your JEE MAIN percentile. Your branch is awarded based on these scores. You must have passed Class 12th with atleast 60% in order to apply here. Reservations are provided for SC/ST and Punjab Quota.
Faculty
Faculty here is good. Some better than the others. Overall, teachers are great. They are all really experienced in their fields. Most of them are from IITs. There is more than enough faculty here. It's the lab assistants sometimes that you have to worry about. They are not that experienced sometimes. But the main faculty is great.
