What Students Say
Likes
- The course structure and Instruction plan is well defined and planned out which provides enough time for syllabus coverage along with revision classes.
- The backlog handling system is realy good here, as you will be given many opportunities to clear your backlogs through one time reappear exams for a nominal fee that also gets refunded upon passing the examination.
- The Labs here are really top quality and good modern equipment is used. Possibly the best automobile lab you can get in a tier 3 college.
Dislikes
- The nature of the course is such that it attracts fewer and lesser lucrative offers in comparison to other courses such as B.Tech. in computer science.
- The schedule gets hectic sometimes as continuos classes from 9 to 5 with just a 1 hour break in between may get tiring for a lot of people.
- While most classrooms are great in quality, some are cheaply built and not well maintained.
Course Curriculum Overview
In the first year the course has more basics oriented subjects, but as the semesters progress the subjects become increasingly more relevant. You can check the exact subects taught in the course on the college website and there you'll notice that in the first year you have basics of engineering oriented physics, chemistry, mathematics and electronics. These subjects may seem irrelevant on the surface level but are important for understanding the more detailed subjects in further semesters. Subjects related to detailed working of fuel, suspension, chasis, IC engines etc. start from the second year. A semester, or a term, typically lasts the standard 4 to 4 and a half months, and is divided into two and there are two exams - Mid Term Exams(MTE), which are held in the middle of a term & End Term Exams(ETE) which are held at the end of a term and practicals are also held right before ETEs. There are class test like Continuous Assesement Tests (CA) that are taken by the teachers in classes.
Internships Opportunities
Internships are offered from year 3 onwards and a significant of people have scored internship in automobile companies. You can also score internships on your own but the college management does not allow you to join those, and you will lose significant attendance if you do join the intenrship. Basically you can only do summer internships until 3rd year.
Placement Experience
LPU has a very active placements department. At the end of 2nd semester you will be made to select a career pathway which refers to what you want to do post graduation. If you select the Placement pathway then you will get placement training through special classes from semester 3 onwards for which you have to pay 13000 as a one time fee. The placements for this course are not something very huge, but the numbers offered are respectable. My personal plan is to bag a placement offer from the university itself.
Fees and Financial Aid
The standard fees for all B.Tech. programmes is 1,40,000 per semester with no increase with an additional exam fee of 4500 to be paid as exam fees every semester. It is very easy to get a scholarship here and almost all students are on a scholarship of some percent. The scholarship is awarded based on LPUNest (LPU's entrance exam), JEE, or CUET percentiles and also based on your board's percentage. The amount varies based on the time of admission as well and if you take admission early, you're eligible for more scholarships. Apart from these tuition fees, there are no other fees you have to pay for tuition. Overall, this is a very affordable option for Automobile engineering.
Campus Life
Campus life here is incredible. You get to meet so many people from diverse backgrounds from all ovr the world with different hobbies and interests. The student club culture is very prominent here and there are a number of clubs for esports, sports, music, theatre, games, literature and so many more fields. There are big events like competitions, treaure hunts, talent shows, car & bike shows, hackathons and concerts to name a few. These are mostly organised by the student clubs and are very affordable to attend. Its very easy to find people with your similar interests here through these clubs. The sports department here is one of the best in the country, with state of the art sporting facilities and even Olympic Level athletes like Neeraj Chopra coming out of LPU. There are facilities for almost all sports here. There is a huge central library with an endless amount of books which is open from 8 am to 12pm everyday and for mechanical department there is another library.
Hostel Facilities
You can get 1,2,3,4 & 6 seater rooms with either AC or a normal air cooler. For a higher price you can get apartment style rooms which have a kitchen/pantry area. There are 7 boys and 7 girls hostels. In your fresher year you'll be randomly assigned a room but from year 2 onwards you can choose the exact room you want and roommates as well. The buildings are not the best but are okay. Each room has an attatched lat bath with a geyser and balcony. A standard 4 seater room has 5 plugs,3 tubelights and 3 ceiling fans. Each person gets a bed with matress, study table and a single metal or wood almirah. There are 4 meals in the mess - Breakfast, Lunch, Evening Snacks and Dinner. You can choose as many meals as you want. The quality and variety are mediocre at best. However, There are many foodcourts and affordable food options available within the campus if the mess food is not good enough for you. Free unlimited WiFi is available in every college building. The speed is good enough.
Admission
In order to be eligible for the course, you must have a minimum of 60% aggregate in 10+2 in Physics, Chemistry, Maths & English. You can get admission through your JEE or CUET score, or through LPU's own LPUNest entrance examination that is held both as a proctored online test or at test centres in select cities. More information can be found on LPU's official website.
Faculty
Automobile engineering comes under the School of Mechanical Engineering, and in this department, the faculty to student ratio is great with skilled faculties for all subjects. As a first year student I had lesser core subjects about automobile and more general engineering based subjects (as is the case with all engineering streams), but even for these subjects the teachers were well qualified and had efficient teaching methods. The teachers are friendly and approachable and if one faces and problems with a teacher, they can file anonymoyus reports which are taken very seriously by the management. You can even book appointments easily with HODs & even the college dean if needed. So far, The teachers have all been Doctorate holders in their respective fields. The main teaching medium is english, but informally most of the teachers talk in hindi as well. For the subjects related to Automobile, we have got teachers with good working experience in the field of automobiles.
Other Applied Colleges
Christ University | Bachelor of Technology [B.Tech] (Automobile Engineering)
People in my circle who did the same course from Christ Bangalore recommended me to opt for LPU instead as they didn't get satisfactory returns from Christ University and I was told exposure is comparatively greater at LPU.
