Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

The lab work course helps to learn a lot and see the problems that we usually don't see while learning theoretically. IISER bhopal provides 6 lab courses for chemistry department along with the complete 5th year which is based on your thesis. The professors with the PhD students help the undergraduate students learn practically. The equipments are in ample amount and are in good condition. The curriculum is designed in such a way that the prerequisite courses are already taught and you don't face difficulty in understanding them although it partially depends on the professors that your batch is alloted. Open elective and departmental elective criteria is given once the majors are assigned in which you can take some courses of your interest which is different from the course work. The difficulty level of the exams are quite high compared to the other institutions as professors don't prefer application based on formula questions rather more abstract knowledge is appreciated.

Internships Opportunities

4

Different courses have different roles in the internship. A lot of students are selected for stipend internships via MITACS (Canada). Some get through IITs portals and cold mailings as well. Companies don't come to the campus for internship. I'm doing the internship in IISERB itself and since it will be my 1st project, cannot comment much about it. But yeah cpi does matter a bit for the stipend internships.

Placement Experience

3.5

For BS engineering students campus placement is eligible from 4th year and for BS-MS students from 5th year. Very less students go for placement. Not sure but probably I will be doing PhD after getting the degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The tution fee is neither too high not too low, it is more than AIIMS but less than IITs or any other private colleges. Inspire fellowships are provided. Stipend internships are not provided not any jobs which are paid are promoted for the students. Mess fees are not included in the semester fees, they are to be paid to the respective mess contractors which is an average of Rs.3000

Campus Life

5

The main college fest named Enthuzia is held in the month of December. A lot of other fests are also conducted by different clubs like arts and letters, science fest under the name of singularity, sports fest under sangharsh in the month of March, and more. Almost all the cultural festivals are also organised by the student community of respective states. Most of the books are available in the library which can be issued although there is a section of books which cannot be issued. Sports is highly promoted but also depends on the students interest. In some sports participantion of professors are also seen. Social work is also promoted which is the part of a club run by the student community.

Hostel Facilities

4.5

2 seater rooms are provided but for girls from 4th year single rooms are given. Rooms are non AC. Personal coolers are allowed with the payment of Rs.800. Kettles, induction and irons are not allowed but students do keep those privately. Common washroom provision is there. A total of 6 mess are including 1 veg mess. Different mess is alloted for different batches. Mess menu depends on the particular mess contractor and the mess representative who is elected by the student among one of theur batchmates. No off campus accomodation for bs ms students are allowed.

Admission

Current 12th pass students and a maximum of 1year drop students are allowed to sit in the entrance exam which is IAT (IISER Aptitude Test). Students from maths or bio background can appear in the exam. Question are are asked from 4 subjects physics chemistry maths and biology although there is no subject wise cut-off bt an overall cut-off which needs to be cleared. Through this entrance test one can get admission to all the 7 IISERs, IISC banglore and IIT Madras( for a particular course). Reservation benefits are provided. The application form fees and dates are available in the IISER bhopal website. The difficulty level of the exam is average though the competition is not very easy.

Faculty

4.5

The faculty to student ratio is good enough that the faculty members can give their special attention to every student. Although it is the part of the student to be active enough in clearing their doubts and engaging themselves with the professors in the discussions. For the 1st year students this might not be the same as for the particular course the no. of students are high because initially they teach every subject to all the students like physics chem maths bio earth science. The faculties are highly qualified no doubt and their way of teaching is also interactive but yeah sincerity is expected from the students. Also they are very approachable and student friendly. You can contact them via e-mails or even meet in their respective office.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Curriculum is very research driven, and it is very flexible too. Course is as per the New Education Policy and is relevant to modern industrial needs. However the Curriculum is all around Pure Sciences, like the B.Sc but just the college is much better than a normal BSc college. First two year is given to students to get along with subjects that they want to study in future, in the third year they choose their Majors. Quizzes are frequent and occurs biweekly, while Exams occurs every month and so.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The curriculum trains students in various research fields, including lab and theory. The course prepares a student to get either a industry position, or PhD position. The course curriculum can be improved by porividing more exposure to students who havent experienced, these fields. Exams are good, easy if youve understood the course content. These exams are based on a wide information of the topic, and are not limited to just one textbook.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Since I am just in my first year right now, the courses I have are fairly introductory. But since we have to study PCMB, Earth Science, Programming and a Humanities course just in the first year, it's fairly hard to manage. we have 2 quizzes, a mid sem exam and an end sem exam in each semester typically at the end of each consecutive month (4 month semester). The marking scheme, syllabus, paper pattern, time, difficulty etc are all subject to change according to the professor.

Placement Experience:

As it's a research institution, more emphasis is given to academia and research instead of placements. We have an active placement cell, but still, it's lackluster compared to engineering colleges. The average package hovers around 10 lpa, and only a handful of people get placements. Most opt for Phd or an MBA.

Mostly from 8th semester onwards students become eligible for sitting in placements and getting preplacement offers in their applied companies. Companies like nomura Bank ,Barclays and Dr Reddy's lab have visited the campus in the past. Mostly all the students get placed because less number of student sitting for the placements. According to last year data around 31 lakhs per annum was the highest package and the average was around 10 lakhs per annum. My plan is to get into a foreign university for my higher studies.

Since IISER Bhopal is a research based institute, the placements here are not judged as in aspect of job placements after bachelor's degree, rather people here generally go for higher studies. But regardless the knowledge and experience gained here by people help them apply for any organisation off campus
