Course Curriculum Overview

4

JSS follows the curriculum of AKTU. The curriculum provides both theoratical as well as practical knowledge. However a lot of unnecessary subjects are also added in the course which provide no requirement in the life of a software engineer(me being from CSE background]. i think those subjects should be replaced with more of practical subjects. Our college conducts 3 sessionals and 1 final exam in a semester. The sessionals are on the easy sides but the final exams are lengthy since we have to write a lot even for small answers other wise the level of paper is from easy to medium.

Internships Opportunities

3

The college does not provide paid internship opportunity other than placements ie, the companies when they come to hire, they hire students as an intern and then provide the jobs. you have to earn internships on your own. However the college does has collaborations with some internship providing agencies but we have to pay for all those internship.

Placement Experience

3

The placement of JSS was pretty well in past making it the second bestprivate university of Aktu but right now sice recession is going on the placements have shown downfall. However still many students are placed on the package of 4-5 lakhs. The students can sit in placements from their last year ie,7th semester.Other than that they can apply for internships outside the campus JSS is very cooperative in that. Many companies like TATA,NEWGEN have visited the college even amazon has been to jss and took a student on the package of 24 lakhs. The highest package has been 62 lakhs offcampus and 24 lakhs on campus. The percentage of student getting placed recently has been reduced due to recurssion. I plan on doing GATE after this degree.

Fees and Financial Aid

The fees of JSS for a year is around 1lakh 20 thousand for my batch i.e,(2022-26]. Also to make it clear being a student of covid batch our year i just for 8-10 months. The college other than this takes exam registration fees every year which is around 8000. The fee for the hostel is around 96000. Overall btech would cost me around 8-9 laks which is mostly the cost of btech in many teir3 college. JSS provides no merit based scholarship. It just provides the scholarship provided by government to lower caste people and people from weak financial backgrounds. JSS have a step up place where we could give our startup ideas and college helps in that.

Campus Life

3.5

The college life is not too exciting if you are not part of any society since college does not even organise freshers. There is just one annual fest Zealicon for 4 days involving DJ nights on the last day(only intresting thing). The fest is generally organised in april. However clubs are fun. Many books are available in the library that can be issued for 14 days however novels are not there(sad for readers like me). The college provides some course books for the entire semester which have to be returned before due date otherwise fine is charged. Journals are provided in the library. The library is equipped with AC. The classrooms are not too good. 3 people have to sit on a single desk when the entire class is present. No facility of AC. No projectors. Teachers teach on blackboards. No charging points are provided in the classrooms. Sports facility of college is not very good. i dont understand where all the fund goes.you have to pay for every thing on your own and within the team.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The rooms are just fine in size. They provide rooms for 3 people. The rooms have a bed, almirah, a chair and table. All others things have to be arranged by you. The menu keeps on changing from time to time and the quality of food is good for the girls hostel but dont even try the food of boys hostel. The hostel is given to those who are not local residents due to shortage of space. The fee for the hostel is near 1 lakh which includes food and other living expences. Taking a hostel in jss as a girl is worth it but not as a boy since the food is bad and the living space is also small. No i live in the hostel.

Admission

JSS takes admission through three modes- 1. JEE based (counselling) - through ranking system 2. Management 3. Direct admission For applying for the college we need to fill aktu counselling form and give our prefrence to JSS. No other application form has to be filled. The counselling fee is 20000 which is actually deducted from the college fee after admission. The college provides reservation on the basis of caste and also some fee wavier seats. I think the admission process of the college is fine just they should limit the number of intakes.

Faculty

4

I feel all the colleges have good as well as not so good faculty. The same is for JSS. Its a college associated to JSS mysore so many of its faculty are people from south india which sometimes creates some problem in understanding what they say because of their accent. The faculty to student ratio is fine and teachers are approachable. If you have any doubt you can freely ask to them in the class as well as after the classes. Some teachers provide their notes by dictating in class and others provide it on google classrooms. Teachers keep on giving assignments time to time. Some teachers even come to our seats and ask our doubts and resolve them. The interaction with the teachers is really good.
