- Campus life: The 4 years spent here are the most memorable times of my life. There are numerous activites happens every week and one can engage in them and make great bonds with people.
- Location: IITB is primarily located in mumbai city, which makes it prime location for city activities. One can enjoy so many events which keep happening in mumbai.
- Labs: Labs in the college are really good and one can get easy access to them if really interested.
Dislikes
- Some newer hostels are like apartments, you won't get a hostel life feeling there.
- Though events are good, but there are too many events happening now and then which may distract someone from core academics at times.
- It may not be a disadvantage, but college is too big. It takes time to go from one place to other.
Course Curriculum Overview
Engineering Physics is a unique course which provides Physics as a BTech program. The course introduces to various fields of physics and thus make one decide if they want to continue higher studies in any field (MTechs or PhDs). The curriculum also has a bit of electronics, so those interested can go on exloring that field too alongside. We have midsemester and endsemester exams every semester. Apart from that, professors may take multiple quizzes / assignments / projects based to course. Difficulty level of the course is relatively high compared to others. All the faculty members are extremely good in their repective fields.
Internships Opportunities
College offers interships to students in 2nd and 3rd year summer and winters. Though one can apply from outside anytime. Internships comes from all domains and almost every big company come. Software roles get paid more; quantative traders also get handsome payments; big consultancies also comes. Some companies also give pre-placement offers to students based on performance.
Placement Experience
Campus placements are for final year students, process starts after the beginning of 7th semester. Companies started to take tests, then shortlisted students will give interviews after the end of 7th semester in december month. Many big companies like Google, Microsoft, Apple, Bain and Co., McKinsey, Flow Traders, HUL, etc comes to hire. Average salary per annum lies around 15-20 LPA, while the highest can go upto 2Cr (internation offers) and lowest can lie around 6-7 LPA. Every year, around 75-80% students gets placed from campus placements.
Fees and Financial Aid
Total fee per semester: Tuition fee: 1,00,000 Rs. Mess fee: 22,000 Rs. Hostel fee: 15,000 Rs. Note: Mess/Hostel fee may change a bit every year. There are multiple scholarships available in the institute: MCM: It is merit cum means scholarships, where they will check if your family annual income is below 5 lac and also your performance in college, and you can get almost entire tuition fee waived off and additional benefits too. Fee Remission: It is based on annual family income ranges, below 1 lac, you get full tuition fee waived off, 1 to 3 lac, you get 66% off, 3 to 5 lac, you get 33% off. Named scholarships: These are alumni scholarships where you get similar benefits as MCM. There are TA (Teaching Assistant) opportunites where you can assist professors in some junior courses and can get stipend too.
Campus Life
IITB conducts one of the Asia's larget fests. Technology: TechFest (Decemeber) Cultural: Mood Indigo (Decemeber) Entrepreneur: E-Summit (February) Apart from these, there are multiple college clubs which are very active, like astronomy, dance, debate, photography, singing, fashion, social service, etc, They have their events going on year across. Library is very big and host large number of books from all domains. Classrooms are also well spacious and contain large LED screens, projectors, balckboards. Free high-speed wifi almost in every building and hostels. There are various indoor/outdoor sports facilities present like olympic size swimming pool, badminton, volleyball, basketball, football, cricket, hockeym tennis, squashm gym, etc. Overall, its a fantastic campus life to live.
Hostel Facilities
There are 18 hostels, some have big rooms (newer ones), some have smaller rooms (old hostels). First 3 years of BTechs, you live 2 studenst per room. 4th year students get single rooms. Every hostel room has lan port to connect wifi routers. Every hostel has their own mess. Mess provides food 4 times a day (breakfast, lunch, snacks, dinner). Mess food depends on hostel but mostly they are good. healthy and edible.
Admission
To get into IIT Bombay BTech, one has to give JEE Advanced exam (whose prerequisite is clearing JEE Main), while there are certain programs one can get using INMO too. JEE happens once every year. After clearing JEE, one has to apply through JoSAA councelling to get inot IIT. Engineering physics is a unique branch where Physics is offered in BTech program. Cut-offs vary based on category and almost always highest in IITB relative to other IITs for Engineering Physics.
