My experience at IITM

The course structure is very apt to the current day use. It is very well structured and practical. They have made it more research oriented. Some of the courses can be updated. Many courses are currently getting updated accordingly to the current day usage. Exams will be conducted once in a month. 2 quizzes and one endsem is held for every course. These exams help students to stay in track and analyse their position in the course. They give a way to get better in the course.

Internships are great here. Companies from all fields like core, non core, consulting, finance etc come here and recruit the students. The process is less intensive but similar to placements. We have to apply for the companies in a preferential order. Internships happen in the fifth semester. All the exams for qualification happened in the summer vacation before the semester. People get good stipend which varies every year.

Placements are very good. Ofcourse, it is NIRF 1 ranked. The placements are of a very wide range. All fields of companies come here to recruit. The placements process is very well structured. We have a proper method and portal to apply or get a placement. Apart from placements there are many options with research. People can try for a research internship at some good university. Highest package keeps varying everytime. Entrepreneurship is very high according to statistics. Many students from IITM want to become entrepreneurs.

Fees is paid twice an year. amount is split in two parts. Hostel and academic fees has to be paid in the same way. There won't be any hikes in the fee usually. Many scholarships are offered. All the scholarships are usually based on the economic conditions of the family. I am the TA for a particular course. I have to guide and grade a set of students assigned to me in that course.

Overall experience is very good. We have two anual fests. One is technical and the other is cultural. Both of them usually happen in the first two weeks of January. The cultural fest is called Saarang. There are various actors coming and participating here. It is overall for 5 days. The technical feat is called Shaastra. Many companies come here and advertise about themselves. There are many competitions held during these fests. Our library has all the required books for our curriculum. We often find ebooks to study. Sports and extracurricular is the best part here. We have all the facilities to use and enjoy. Center for innovation is a student run group. It is having many technical clubs. We work all all kinds of technical innovations there.

Hostels are very good. They are cleaned and maintained daily. Hostel maintenance is taken care by a team called Xpert. Mess is different from hostel. They have seperate buildings. We have to go to that building from hostel and eat food there. Quality of food is very good. We find all menus available there. North and South are the two options for mess we have. Students can choose from these. We have to register or choose the mess every 45-50 days. A mail will be sent to all the students requesting to register for mess. We have a website called ikollege to register. Apart from mess we also have food court to buy and eat food. Quality is good at the food court also.

Eligibility of IIT Madras is only through JEE Advanced exam. One has to qualify JEE Advanced exam to get into IIT. To qualify for advanced first we have to qualify for mains. Application form is fount on nta website. Exam will be for 3 hours, jee mains has two chances and chooses the best of two. Jee Advanced is only one day exam with two papers. After qualifying jee Advanced, we have to apply in jossa website. Jossa is a portal ro make preference for college and get admission.
