Life at IIT Guhwati

Mathematics and computing is a developing course. The curriculum of this course focuses on many aspects not only computing, but maths, finance and a lot of other useful fields. We have labs and projects which helps us to understand real world applications. I think exam evaluations should be less strict. Exams are moderate ana sometimes hard, we also have quizzes, these happen during mid semester and end semester

Internships are offered by various companies like JP Morgan, Google, Uber and other companies which can be checked in the official campus website, stipend starts from min 20000, it depends on the company and the posts. A good cpi should be maintained to get placed and for software internships coding background is must.

Students are eligible for campus placements in 4th year. Internship placements are offered in 3rd year. Companies that visited our college are Google, Microsoft, Qualcomm, Bajaj and variously other companies, you can find the details on official website of IIT Guhwati. In our course that is mathematics and computing, 96 percent of students are placed. Highest package offered in our campus was 1 crore and average package is 30000. My plans after my degree is to do higher studies.

My complete cost of education is approximately one lakh, may vary depending on semester but is more than or equal to one lakh, these include hotel fees, education, compulsory charges etc. Scholarships and fee waivers are provided for students with less annual income and loans are also provided for them. I don't get any scholarships but I am a project head of a project called Inndrone.

There are two fests in our college, technical fest called Techniche and cultural fest called Alcheringa, these are organized and run by students. Library has a vast variety of books, we can access any books we want and there are people to help us find any book we want to. Facilities in classrooms are good aot conditioned rooms, projectors, seating arrangiamenti like everyone can see the board. We can play any sport we want to, the sports equipment are easily accessible, we can play anytime we want to, our college also encourages extracurricular activities. There are a lot of clubs which are also run by students. Students conduct timely events also.

Hostels are well furnished, with tables, chairs and beds. They are neat, and cleaning people clean it two times a week. From third year single rooms are provided, first and second years are double sharing rooms. Mess food is average, not too good and neither that bad. We have side dishes but you have to pay for it, it is affordable. Registration and hostel affordability is done in the staring of the semester. I did not rent any PG.

To get into IIT, we need to get a good rank in jee advanced. To be eligible for jee advance, we have to clear mains. Anyone who passes 12th boards can attempt these exams. You can find application details on nta website on google. Mains is generally moderate, if we refer to NCERT books, we can score well but advance is a bit tough, we need a lot of preparation for that. I think the nta website should be improved, previous question papers should be easily accessible in it.
