Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

This curriculum provides a deeper understanding in the mathematical aspect of computer science and machine learning, although it also has many addition course combined for the first two years of college, you will be able to choose a major in third year . It has a little bit of real world applications but it can can be a solid foundation for future academics you will take. The curriculum is packed with many exams and can be different to deal with , as there and multiple class tests and mid/end sem exams with high difficulty but overall it is a good choice.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tuition fee is divided into two groups, one for SC,ST and PWD And the rest separate. For SC St your tuition fee will be cancelled and total expenses come aut to about 1 lakh for 5 years , for gen ews obc the tution fee is 80k per year and the total expenses come out to 5 lakhs. They do provide "inspire scholarship" to specific students that canceles out there tution fee and also provide support in internship and other aspects.

Campus Life

5

university hums with a vibrant energy, weaving academics. National holidays like Republic Day and Independence Day ignite a spirit of unity, while "Inquivesta" ignites intellectual curiosity. The library is a haven for knowledge seekers, offering a vast collection of books, e-books, and helpful librarians. Classrooms are tech-powered, with smartboards and high-speed internet fostering interactive learning.Beyond academics, the university prioritizes well-being. The sports complex offers diverse athletic opportunities, while student-run clubs under DOSA cater to various interests, from debate to music.A central student portal facilitates communication and allows students to shape their experience. This tapestry of learning and community ensures my university experience is not just educational, but transformative.

Hostel Facilities

5

Hostal facilities are provided by the college and you also have the option to rent outside the campus but I recommend staying in hostal as it much cheaper 17k per year with good quality rooms , although only fan , table and bed are provided you can buy other necessities in from shops in campus, food is of very good quality, and manu changes daily repeating every 7 days , registation process is very simple and very affordable (3k per year +15k for food etc)

Admission

Addmission process was pleasant with no hiccups. If you have completed 12th with 60% or above you should definitely give the IAT entrence exam, with mcq's of maths, physics, chemistry and biology. You can all the application related info in IISER IAT Website, you can also find reservation details there. This exam is conducted once a year with mid difficulty, studing from NCERT should be enough .

Course Curriculum Overview:

Till now, the basics are being taught, I have talked to seniors of my department and they say that our course is good and curriculum is updated, it will be helpful if they included more computered learning for chemicals such as using computers to synthesize specific material or to emulate how said chemical will perform in certain situations. Our midsems started just 1 month after we came here, I think there should be more time given for the first exam as the students need to adjust as well.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Course curriculum are different for different departments students. Like i was in physics department,, they give assignment, quizes and and midsem and endsem and the marks their varry depending on the course teacher decision. I selected physical science and i am quite satisfied with my course selection as the lab experience was very good. Teacher take 2 or 3 teaching assistant to help the students in the classroom, Teaching assistant are actually seniors and they help students in very friendly way.

Course Curriculum Overview:

In my opinion, the relevance is extremely subjective, in certain subjects we learn way more than what is expected from undergraduate students, in others our knowledge level is comparitively less. It depends on the faculty member taking the course honestly. It changes course to course.

Placement Experience:

There's an entire department dedicated to internships and placements and the information surrounding it. I am not sure about from which semester students become eligible for campus placements, but it must be around after the 3rd year. Of course the whole purpose of IISER is based on research rather than placements, as a result most of the students opt further studies than a job after their completion of MS

Placement Experience:

Students can sit for placement in their 5th year after completing the BS-MS course. Company like ITC infotech , TCS etc visit to offer placement. As iiser is a Institute mainly for research studies , not many students sit in placement, they opt for higher studies in national or in some foreign Institutes. From what i know the highest package in 2023 was 48 lpa and average package was 7 lpa.

Placement Experience:

The placement in Our college is quite good.Normally around 80% of the people get placed through CDC which is the on campus organisation that connects students with companies. The placement cell even provides some foreign internships and jobs due to immense amount of connections they have around the world. They even conduct workshops to help the students know about the industry and acquire soft skills which are needed to get placed.

Course Curriculum Overview:

Courses at IISER Kolkata are not like usual curriculum in state or central Universities in India. IISER Kolkata 's academic curriculum is quite similar to that of US and European Universities. The focus of the curriculum is to teach and train us to make us researchers. So the courses are quite relevant if someone wants a career in research. Exams are very frequent in iiser Kolkata, apart from the mid semester and end semester exams, there are regular quizzes/class tests/surprisetests/assignments/grades tutorial problems every week.

Placement Experience:

Placements are good. Top companies like Apple, Microsoft and Google do offer placements and PPOs to students. Students are eligible for placements in their final year. Highest offers go up to as high as Rs. 2 Cr or 4 Cr. About 750+ offers including PPOs were made during first few days of the start of the placement season this year in IIT Kharagpur. Overall placement percentage as been above 85%. Profiles of placements vary, including a good mix of both core companies and tech companies. I intend to pursue MS in Economics or MBA, depending on future interests.
