Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum in RSET is very well designed (since RSET is autonomous) compared to the old and obsolete curriculum that the KTU syllabus follows. It mainly focuses on the subjects and syllabuses needed for the specific branches. Every branch has a different syllabus pertaining to their subject and incorporates contemporary elements essential for assisting students, rather than outdated and obsolete contents. It is student friendly as well as students get the opportunity to select extra papers needed for their higher studies. While the marking scheme is stringent compared to that of other universities, students are thoroughly briefed on it before exams, facilitating their ability to attain high marks. The faculty members are strict yet approachable, maintaining a friendly demeanor with students while providing thorough assistance. They also pay close attention to students who may be struggling, offering appropriate support.
Placement Experience
Students become eligible for placement from the 6th semester onwards. At the conclusion of the second year, the college evaluates all students, allowing only the diligent and deserving individuals to proceed, while others are dismissed. The college provides excellent placement prospects for high-performing students. A multitude of reputable companies actively recruit from our institution, making it a premier destination for career opportunities in Kerala. While assured placement is offered to students with minimal or no backlog papers, others are also placed, albeit with comparatively lower annual packages. Majority of the talented students are placed in Cognizant and TCS Ninja with an average annual package of 10 to 12 lakh. I actually plan to pursue higher studies after Btrch.
Fees and Financial Aid
Usually the fee structure in RSET is as follows: (i)Students getting admission through KEAM: Tuition Fee for 1 year + Special Fee = 85000 + 12000 = 97000/- per year (ii) Students getting admission through KEAM in Tuition Fee Waiver Category: Special Fee only = 12000/- per year (iii) Students getting Admission through management quota: Tuition fee + Special Fee + Some extra fee (I'm not aware about it) = Approx above 1 lakh (iv) Students getting admission through NRI Quota: Tuition Fee + Special Fee + Donation = 85000 + 12000 + 5 to 6 lakh (depending on the branch) = Approx above 7 lakh for the 1st year. Donation is not applicable from 2nd year. E grant scholarship is available for financially weaker students and for the OEC community in which the tuition fee is completely waived on providing relevant certificates and documents.
Campus Life
RSET has two main fests every year: Abhyanthriki (Technical Fest), which is held in the month of December and Bharatham (Cultural and Arts Fest), which is held in the month of March or April. Both these fests are celebrated with great pomp and valor in the college. Then there is a half day Christmas and Onam celebration every year. Apart from this, there is an annual sports meet conducted every year in which the students are provided with lots of opportunities to participate in various events and win laurels. Students also get the opportunity to represent their college in various state and national level events. Then there are a number of clubs in the college where the students can enroll and engage in various activities. Students are even provided with the opportunity to go to other colleges and attend workshops and attend events happening in that college.
Hostel Facilities
Hostel facility provided by the college is high class. There are 2 sharing rooms and 3 sharing rooms. Rooms are allotted randomly every year and students are not given the opportunity to choose. But if you pay extra money, you are given the opportunity to choose. A student is provided with an almirah, a bed (mattress is not provided), a chair, a cloth hanging thing and a study table with a study lamp in a room. Bathrooms are neat and tidy and is cleaned everyday. Every floor has a separate geyser to provide access to hot water during cold weather. The hostel also has a high speed wifi providing internet connection 24×7 to the students. Hostel food is exceptional in both taste and hygiene, offering a wide range of options that cater to both vegetarian and non-vegetarian preferences.
Admission
Admission to RSET is basically through KEAM entrance exam. The exam is conducted by the Kerala Entrance Commission in offline mode (till 2023) but it's possible that the exam will be computer based from the coming years. Application for KEAM exam usually starts in the month on March and ends by the first week of April. Exam is conducted during the month of May and the results are published in June. To avail reservation during admission, students need to submit relevant caste certificates issued by the Panchayat or the Taluk office. All these necessary documents should be uploaded to the CEE portal during the time of application. Once the results are published, a student need to attain a rank between 5000 to 12000 to get admission for IT branch (Cut off varies every year depending on the number of students and seats). Nevertheless to say, there are NRI seats for every branch, for which KEAM exam is not required and the admission process for NRI seats starts prior to the KEAM exam.
