- Students here are quite talented. Though the campus has less opportunities to grow, poeple continue to
Dislikes
- Hostel facilities are disgusting equally for everyone. Restrictions are too many and unjustified many a time
- Accessibility of the location is much disliked as well
Course Curriculum Overview
The aspects of this course expand not only through the current market trends but also the difficulty level of the course. My course, i.e., Computer Science and Engineering is relatively easy to study among all other engineering fields along with its relevance in the current market. Curriculum, now changed much, is very much improved and has introduced new subjects like ethics, life science. So i wont mind saying it tries to prepare you for real world. Though the course can be more practical than is now. As far as assessment is concerned, every subject (except labs) has two exams: one mid-sem and one end-sem along with marks given for assigments, attendance and files in labs
Placement Experience
Placements here start in the final year only. The average package stands around 8lakhs/annum, where the highest last year remained with CSE student (1.73 crores/annum). Placements for CSE department are quite satisfactory. The percentage was around 70-80 last year but recession has resulted in bad percentage this year. My plans after getting the degree is to further pursue MBA
Fees and Financial Aid
Tuition fee per semester goes around 85000 for general students having family income above 5Lakhs. For those with family income less than 5Lakhs, it's around 42000 and for SC, ST, EWS and with family income<1Lakh per year, it's around 21000. Scholarships are many, some for girls some for underprivileged and some for low family income students from the central government. For general students with family income not less than 5Lakhs, this course from a government college: tuition fees and hostel fees seems very expensive
Campus Life
The college has two fests in a year, NIMBUS in the even semesters and HILL'FFAIR in the odd semesters. While NIMBUS is a technical fest involving technical activities like exhibiting tech projects and guest lectures, HILL'FFAIR is a cultural fest with cultural events like dance, acts, fashion walk, DJ, and prom. Books in the library are in a number of 10000, most of them for curriculum. Personally, i dont think the library is very rich in literary, fiction and non-fiction books apart from the curriculum. Sports is also very rich in the college, can be seen through events like LALKAAR in March. Extracurriculars can be seen through clubs and their involvement in fests, which are student-run only. The campus is not in an accessible place, Hamirpur and doesnt support much of bollywood college life. The restrictions are also much of a burden and headache than for safety purposes
Hostel Facilities
In first year, the girls hostel have rooms with 3,5,7 sharing. Facilities are basic but unfortunately water shortage is unpredictable here. You have run through floors and washrooms in search of water to just brush your teeth, let alone bathe. Meal and mess quality is really good in girls hostels and leaves rarely anyone dissatisfied. Affordability is okay, 65000 per year. Though the hostels are really really restrictive for girls, really strict about timings (not even a minute late is spared and consequences are severe). So unless you want to taste freedom and take control of your own life, take a room in Ambika Girls Hostel, NIT Hamirpur. Life here is kinda miserable
Admission
Your eligibility for the course is assessed through the JEE Mains entrance exam. Application form for the same can be found out online in the NTA website for JEE. The fees stands somewhere around 1000 or less. Reservation benefits lie throughout: JEE registration fee, seat allocation, college fees and scholarships too. The exam is taken twice a year (two sessions) and the best of two is considered as final. Difficulty level is medium to hard.
