Course Curriculum Overview
I would rate the curriculum a solid 7/10 with traditional business aspects as well the modern requirements. A particular interesting aspect is the ability to choose a major and minor subject according to your preference which gives you the ability to develop a cross functional skill set. Having said that, few more practical teaching methods should be inculcated. The faculty is supremely knowledgeable and tends to provide ample assistance when required.
Internships Opportunities
The internship opportunities are vast in terms of the finance sector and slightly limited for core marketing roles. There are few marketing agencies which come on campus but they are very few and provide a low stipend 10-15k per month. Lots of sales opportunities are provided with 25-30k stipend oer month. Core financial roles are the best in terms of monetary value.
Placement Experience
Many reputed companies visit campus but it is about taking your opportunities as the batch size is very high. They provide varying packages and varied roles. The average package is around 11.5l-12l and the highest being arounf 30l. A realistic number in terms of percent of batch placed should be around 95%
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
The fee structure has almost doubled since the university became autonomous. My complete cost would be around 21.5L (18L tuition fees+ 3.5L hostel fees including food). Ample financial assistance is provided in terms of education loans. Financial aid is also provided to the lower income group based on merit. There are numerous reputed companies coming on campus but you need to grab these opportunities as soon as possible due to the high batch size.
Campus Life
The overall campus life is great with respect to the infrastructure especially sports. Multiple cultural fests are held across the year across festivals. The flagship event is Melange which brings top quality music artists on the campus for a fun filled night. There are numerous clubs and committees to choose from according to your interest for eg- sports, finance, marketing, international business, placements, photography etc
Hostel Facilities
The hostel provided is a triple sharing room with one washroom. There are 3 cupboards and 3 desks provided. A major negative is that the rooms do not have an AC. Even though the rooms are well ventilated, an AC should be provided to bear Mumbai's heat. The meals are home cooked but there is an inconsistency in terms of taste, though good variety and options are provided.
Admission
In my opinion the admission process was fairly smooth throughout the various rounds. There was complete clarity in terms of the requirements in the form/application fees which was clearly displayed on the official website. The best aspect was that KJ Somaiya considers multiple exams for the admission criteria for example CAT, Xat, Nmat. I personally applied via the NMAT exam which was moderately difficult compared with Cat and Xat.
Interview Experience
There wasn't any group discussion but there was a business Case Analysis which was conducted. A specific business problem was presented in front of us and we were given some time to come up with a solution. Post which we had to present to the moderators. After this the PI was conducted where they asked me about my past experience, my future plans, how an mba would benefit me etc
