Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

The fees of the course i have chosen is affordable and also this course has a great future ahead. as we know the coming years are all about technology and computers so the course offers a great opportunity for me to face real world applications. The course curriculum is already made to benefit the students and i don't find any issues with teaching methods. Two mid semester exams and end semester exam is conducted in a semester with a moderate difficulty level .

Placement Experience

3

It is from the 7th semester that the students become eligible for campus placements. But still I'd argue that the campus placements are not that good. The average salary is around 4.5 lakhs and the highest placement offered was around 20 lakhs. I am not aware of the percentage of student getting placements.

Fees and Financial Aid

Tution fees doesn't increase that frequently. The complete cost of the course is 371,600 including exams fees. Financials aids are provided to students via Tution fee waiver scheme and also via 10 plus 2 merit. I am studying in the campus yet and have not undertaken campus employment.

Campus Life

4

Different technical events are conducted throughout the year. Many cultural fests and hackathons are also organised. A wide range of books and journals are available in the library and the library is pretty good. The campus consists of many smart classes. Different sports and sports events are also organised. Some third-year students run a coding club that goes by the name Bizarre Coders and also our campus also has a google developer social club.

Hostel Facilities

3.5

The campus consists of three boys and two girls hostels. The hostel room is a bit congested for two people but still hostel is pretty well maintained. The hostel mess serves healthy food, and the menu is well organised. People may not find the food taste good but still the mess is hygienic. The hostels are pretty affordable and all the hostel are within the university campus.

Admission

The basic eligibility for the Btech CSE course as per 2023 is a good score in your respective 12th board exam. One can get the application form and all the regarding details on the official site of IKGPTU Main Campus website. The Punjab quota is about 85% and 15% for the other states students. Two mid semester exams and an end semester are conducted in a single semester of 6 months with a moderate difficulty. The admission process is pretty easy and doesn't need any improvement.

Companies start coming summer internships in the 5th and 6th semester though ,CG cuts are imposed so very less students are elgible to sit for these companies, The real placement season is 7th and 8th semester and many companies visit campus for placements. around 60 percent students got placed in the recent placement drive. The major recruiters are: Oracle, CISCO, JPMC,Deloite,IBM,ZS etc.

Course Curriculum Overview:

I’d rate the curriculum like 7/10 in terms of relevance and comprehensiveness — it covers all the major CSE subjects like DSA, OS, DBMS, CN, AI, ML, Cloud, Cybersecurity basics, etc., and honestly that was one of the reasons I chose this course because at least the core subjects are solid even if PTU keeps some old-school stuff in the syllabus. The curriculum does prepare you for real-world stuff, but only to a point — like, if you focus on coding labs and projects you’ll be fine for internships, but if you depend only on classroom theory then it won’t help much because industry wants hands-on skills. For higher studies also it’s okay because theory depth in subjects like OS and DBMS is decent enough. But yeah, improvements are definitely needed — some subjects feel outdated, teachers should use more practical examples, and we need more real projects instead of copy-paste lab manuals; also some faculty teach directly from slides which gets boring fast. Exams come twice per semester (sessionals) plus the final end-sem around December/May; they’re mostly easy if you write long answers, but tricky if you rely only on understanding because PTU likes theory-heavy questions. Overall, the system works, but it could be way more practical and industry-focused.

Placement Experience:

Placements are not that good. Although companies come, there is a lack of mass recruiters or reputed organizations. One has to grind hard here for placements. If you're a CS student, you will have to face immense competition here. As for core branches, placements are severely dry. Students gets eligible in 4th year onwards for placements. Some of recruiters here are Trident, TCS, Reliance, Sonalika and other few. Every company offers around 10-15 selected students for a job. Highest package ever was 15LPA and average is 3.2LPA. Percentage placed is only around 15% here. My plans after the degree are to apply for govt exams.
