Course Curriculum Overview
BSc Life Science of Universty of Delhi is a great course. It gives us a holistic idea about the various scientific processes related to life of animals as well as plants. The topics we study is very much inclined with the medical sciences and we get to work on various laboratory skills. In addition to that after the adoption of New Education Policy in University of Delhi we are learning one addition subject from a department other than the parent department i.e. Zoology, Botany and Chemistry. As of me, I have slected Economics with Life Sciences. We also study Value Added Courses, Skill Enhancement Courses and Ability Enhancement Couses (i.e. EVC or Language) with our main subjects. As per my opinion this maybe act as burden on students but from a broader prespective its great. One improvement that I can suggest is to make SEC and VAC courses more practical and relevant for job market and better evaluation processes.
Placement Experience
Our college has a dedicated Placement cell. They regularly conduct internship fairs for all the undergraduate students and conduct regular seminars for students to be job ready. These seminars also give us insights about preparing CVs, giving interviews and many other productive skills. The placement cell invites companies to college and give us wide range of opportunity. The highest package of 2023 was 2150000, median was 600000 and average was 658000 and all of these was just because of our Placement cell. 242 students got campus placement just after under-graduate degree and 452 students got internship in a single academic year.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fee for Life Science in my college i.e. Sri Venkateswara College is 19217, after including all the university/college charges we pay 19967 as an annual fee. Yes, there are university scholarships and college financial assistance given by the college. Yes, we get a chance to do regular internships and summer internships at the university.
Campus Life
Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi has a great campus environment. I, myself, am a part of two college societies which very much align with my interests, and a cultural club as well. These societies give us so much exposure and opportunities.
Admission
The admission process was quite lengthy and tested our patience. CUET based admission gave chance to those who couldn't score good marks in HSC to get into top educational institutions. The process started with filling the CUET registration form in which I had to fill my personal details, academic details, exam subject selection (Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English) and university as well as course (BSc Life Science) selection. Then I gave CBT tests (Moderate and Difficult) on different days in the shifts alloted to me by NTA. Even before the CUET results were announced University of Delhi had launced its CSAS 2023 portal's phase-1. I had filled it with my NTA application number and it fetched my details from NTA. After results my scores (Below 300/600) were also fetched directly and my subject eligibility was displayed on the portal. Then in Phase-2 the university asked us to make a preference list of course with college we were eligible for. Got admission in round 3 under OBC.
