What Students Say
Likes
- Events and happening environment of college due to the influence of student based clubs and societies. Events range from hackathons to dj nights so yeah a pretty cool diversity.
- Infrastructure: Infrastructure is way too good here given then campus size (780+ acres). Huge sports complex and gyms and classrooms also very decent. Full marks for cleanliness and greenry as well.
- Facilities here are quite good as most of them have good experience and are heavily qualified with best colleges of the country (some even foreign). And well equipped laboratories too.
Dislikes
- Our college doesn't have a boundary, so a bit of security issue can arise. And influence of local people here who live inside the campus has resulted in theft of cycles oftentimes.
- Fests and events are wrapped way too early like 8 pm is the time to start but they end at 8. Also the regular intime can be extended too. (10 pm already)
- Lack of Night canteen and 24×7 library. There is no provision for any food inside the campus after 10 or 10:30 pm and library closes as early as 7:30-8 pm here in weekdays and even earlier (5 pm) on weekends which i think is a major problem.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course is mostly relevant and particular which in my opinion will be of great use in longer run because of the heavy infrastructure and big laboratories with well equipped instruments. The fact that this college is too old makes some lab machines not give proper results but most of them are updated with time so emphasis on practical as well as theoretical knowledge is pretty decent with a good difficulty level in exams and frequency of exams is also high which in my opinion can be a bit low. Facilities here are well qualified and experienced which is a bonus obviously.
Fees and Financial Aid
Fees structure is pretty normal here as compared to any IIT, NIT (without any fee waivers) or a private college. Also scholarships are also available here every semester on the basis of GPA of previous semester which includes merit based as well as merit cum means, compassionate grounds, scholarships for employees' wards, etc. The scholarship is known as GP Birla Scholarship. Students can get upto 25%, 50%, 75%, or even 100% of the tuition fees based on their SGPA of previous semesters and the cash gets transferred directly into the accounts of the respective students.
Campus Life
Overall experience about social life in college is pretty decent given that here are about 30+ clubs and societies of every kind including cultural clubs like leo and rotaract, coding cubs like ACM, IEEE, IETE, IET, quizzing clubs like UNESQO, sports and adventure club, environmental protection and awareness club, NGOs like Dristi, robotics club like Robolution, mechanical core clubs like firebolt, aveon, srijan, extra curricular clubs like music club(dhwani), dance club, dramatics club(ehsas), and clubs of different branches like ECESOC, EEESOC, BIOTS, IEI Civil, etc. Entrepreneurship Development Club, 180DC consulting club, etc etc... They organise many events every few days. The atmosphere is too happening here. Anyone and everyone can participate. Sports facilities and gyms are also well equipped with 40+ acres sports complex. We just had annual athletic meet last week and we have our annual cultural fest BITOTSAV next month. Classrooms are also equipped with ac and projectors.
Admission
Admission process was quite simple as it has JEE Mains as the qualifying exam for entering this college. For my department, i.e., Mechanical Engineering and as a general category student of other state, 50k to 65k AIR in jee mains would be sufficient to get into through the counselling process of CSAB in which 2 spot rounds take place which happens after 6 rounds of counselling through JOSAA. Any student willing to come here can easily take the Joint Entrance Examination which is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and then during the choice filling at josaa or csab, they can fill this college and that particular branch in which they want to enroll. If the cut off according to that year permits, they will be in. And the cut-offs doesn't vary too much every year. So students can assume the cut off to be around the previous year's cut off with a slight change. JEE mains is conducted twice a year and difficulty is above boards and below jee advanced.
