- I like the zero percent attendance policy as it gives us free time to pursue our interests and upskill ourselves.
Dislikes
- I dislike the surprise tests that happen quite often in the college since it diminishes the zero percent attendance policy
- Pilani is situated in rajasthan so we face extreme climate . It is very hot in the summers and very cold in the winters.
- We are not allowed to have ACs, Coolers or heaters in the room despite the extreme weather conditions.
Course Curriculum Overview
The course curriculum of Computer science and engineering at BITS is highly regarded for its well-structured and comprehensive approach to learning. The faculty are well qualified, supportive, and approachable. The teachers hold PhDs degrees and Research Scholars are also available to assist and evaluate us in the course subjects. I chose this course due to my deep interest in computer programming since childhood and my aspiration to work as a software engineer in companies like Google Microsoft, etc. The faculty-to-student ratio is about 10:1. The evaluation process includes tests, mid-sems, and comprehensive exams. They were fairly tough and the grading at BITS is very tough compared to other colleges like even IIT.
Internships Opportunities
Our college has three internship opportunities - Practice school 1 - which is an unpaid internship after the second year to give students experience in the working field. Practice school 2 and summer internships - are paid internship opportunities in 3rd and 4th year and students can also get pre-placement offers from companies like google and Tata Steel.
Placement Experience
You can become eligible for campus placements from the fourth year's first semester but you can also get pre-placement offers in 3rd year summer internship if the company finds you useful. The names of companies that visit campus are google, Microsoft, amazon, direct x, and tata Steel, and about 98% of students are placed. Highest package is 60 LPA and the average package is 30 LPA. My plan after getting the degree is to work a job in a good company with a good package.
Fees and Financial Aid
The fees at BITS are about 28 lakhs including hostel fees and mess fees. We have two types of scholarship policies - Merit and merit cum need scholarship. The merit scholarship is available for the first sem in which the scholarship is given based on your BITSAT score. I got a 100% scholarship for my first semester as I had 362 in BITSAT. The merit cum need scholarship is applicable if your family income is below 12 lpa and your college is above 6.0. At 6 colleges, you get 40% scholarship and it increases respectively. I have not got any job or stipend on campus as I am only in my first year.
Campus Life
BITS has three fests - The cultural fest is called Oasis and which happens in October, the Sports fest is called BOSM and which happens in September, the Tech fest is called APOGEE and which is conducted in April. Books are easily available in the library and the bookstores on campus. The sports facilities are very good as we have a lot of sports and activities including snooker, gym, skating. squash etc. BITS has a lot of student run clubs and departments like PCR, HAS, NSS, NIRMAAN, GAMING CLUB, MOUNTAIN ADVENTURING CLUB, etc. You can join any club which suits your interests and bond with people that like it.
Hostel Facilities
The room is well equipped with a bed ,drawer , table , chair , cupboard , whiteboard etc. It has 24/7 electricity and water and well lit rooms . Mess serves 3 meals and the food in the mess is very good and the menu is provided to us on a monthly basis . Registration process for hostel is done when you fill the admission fees. It is not allowed to rent a room or PG as all students are required to stay in college hostels . The fees for hostel and mess are about 40000 rupees for a semester.
Admission
To be eligible for admission to BITS, you need to have a minimum of 75% in board exams and a minimum of 60% in physics, chemistry, and mathematics each. You can easily find the application form, application fees, and dates on the BITS admissions website. I did not avail of any reservation benefits as BITS has a zero reservation policy. The entrance exam for BITS is BITSAT and it is an online centre-based exam of total 390 marks. The cutoff for CSE was 331 marks in 2023. You can also get direct admission to BITS if you are a board topper of your state. The application fee for BITS was about 5000 rupees. I found the admission process to be well-structured and efficient. The college provided many counseling rounds for students to get seats in their desired branches. The cutoff for my branch cse was hard but it was worth it since it is a great college. An improvement I'd like to see is that there should be more minor courses like CSE along with AI/ML, etc.
