Likes

Scope is high and more numbers of students are engaged in this university
All types of subjects are available here and we can do masters in most of them later
Calcutta University has a very lively history in past and has a very good ancestral history

Dislikes

The question standard is high but somehow 3rd semester questions are meant to be done just to fail students
This university is not that much involved in sports
There is a very limited amount of time available in between two semesters

Course Curriculum Overview

Choosing this course was due to my interest purpose as I like chemistry and want to do further studies in this subject. Faculties are good but somehow they are not so good in discussing and class taking approach as there are very limited lectures available in the time gap between two semesters. The question standard is moderate but 3rd semester is very difficult and there are very few percentage of people who actually pass in all subjects. Qualification of teachers are good but they are not so much interactive

Fees and Financial Aid

Fees structure is complex and every semester provides both university exam fee along with College fees and sometimes the servers of college portals are down and this creates hilarious situation. Numerous types of scholarships are available but those who have a government working parent is not available to apply any .

Campus Life

Collegemates are moderate and some of them have narrow mindset of seeing life . Library is not so good as it does not contain essential books for our studies. Class amenities are very few. Due to covid now there is no such fests occurred but our department has organised a picnic . Sports and extra curricular activities are parts of our ceremonies but most of us are not available to perticipate those due to lack of time as we invest our time in attending lab classes all day.

Admission

Course eligibility is based on the marks obtained in higher secondary examination. Application form is available in both offline and online mode . Application fees are negligible some colleges provide free forms. Refunding process is lengthy and time consuming and it can be improved.

SXC Kolkata is a gem of a college.

Placement Experience:

Computers are so vast that masters is mandatory and therefore I have certain plans for that. However big scale IT companies come here and students of Computer science Hons have had placements worth 6-10 lakhs easily. My plans are to appear for the job interviews but not taking any as I want to study more.

Placement Experience:

College does provide internship opportunities both through the placement cell as well as department faculty. Semester 5 and Semester 7 students are eligible for placements. Average package is about 5.5 lakh per annum for microbiology course. Although placement percentage is on the lower side majority of students go for higher studies. Many prepare for exams like GATE, IIT JAM, etc.

Placement Experience:

college placements are good in this college with a number of good financial and consultancy firms coming in with new gen companies as well in the service and sales industry. moreoever getting a good placement in a top financial or consultancy placement requires a POR in a good society as a criteria, its not really required but adds to your chances of getting it. moreover you require to participate in a number of case study competitions for the same as well. my plans after graduation is probably working for a year or two after which i plan on doing my MBA. around 50-60% who apply get a placement.

My experience at St. Xavier's

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course theory helps us gain a solid understanding of the subject matter. Film studies and Mass Communication theory classes has laid down the foundation of the subject- from what is a shot and the kinds of shots and angles, to the beginning of radio in India and essays by CS Pierce and John Berger. The course also includes practical classes in the sound labs, editing labs and we will learn to use a camera, as one of the things we will have to do in this course is make films of our own.

The college offers good placements for economis. Students in their final year are eligible for campus placements and there is a cell dedicated to placements. Many students do not opt for placements and go for higher studies but many students who opt for it, get placed with decent packages. Many well-known companies visit the campus as well. i applied to the National University of Singapore where i got admission in the Economics course but had to take back my offer due to personal reasons. moreover i tried for colleges in Delhi University however my score wasnt adequate for the college i wanted for economics so i had to stay back in this college which otherwise was my choice over any other college. the admission process here is rather tedious, you have to get your registration form for this college signed by your school principal with your picture and get that along with all other original documents during the document verification day, eligibility i believe includes the presence of mathematics at any cost. the cutoffs here go pretty high, especially for economics, calculated on a maths+best of 4 basis out of 200....Read More

Perfect campus for economics student

Admission process are very simple. Generally entrance exam was conducted for admission but I took admission just after COVID so I didn't give any entrance exam. But cutt off was very high. At least 70 percent marks in graduation are mandatory to take admission in this university on the merit basis. Application form are generally found on University official website in August.
