Just IITK Things.

I choose this course as it was the best fit as per my choice filling in Josaa counseling and my rank. Although i don't regret my fate. The faculty to student ratio in our Department is around 1:10. The teachers here at IITK are highly qualified and passionate individuals with sheer interests and immense knowledge in their respective fields. Teachers in my Department too hold the same attributes. Their way of teaching is marvellous. They make you fall in love with the subject and light up the curiosity within you to divedeep into the field and explore more. Generally we have Mid-semester examinations and End-semester examinations every semester and some quizzes too. Mid-sems starts after 1.5 month of the semester beginning and End-sems are after the other 1.5 month portion. The faculties conduct quizzes on the basis of the convenience of both students and theselves. The core subjects are moderate, neither too difficult nor too easy. But still you need hardwork to get through the exams.

In IITs students pay fee Semester wise. For odd-semester the fee is ?1,53,000(approx) [excluding mess charges and electricity bill and personal expense] And for the even-semester the fee is ?1,15,365(approx)[same as for odd-sem]. Out of this semester fee ?1,00,000 is the tuition which get waved on the basis of your family income(•if family income?5,00,000 -then you have to pay full ?1,00,000). Apart from this you get a scholarship too. If you are in BS course with JEEAdvanced rank under 10,000 the you get ?60,000 per year and additional ?20,000 per year incase you complete certains projects given yearly. Apart from this there is MCM also for students in Btech and those ineligible for inspire, in MCM you get full tuition fee waver and a pocket allowance of ?11,000 per year. College provides oncampus jobs with a decent average package of ?20 lakh.

Campus life is much more interesting than expected. Each year several competitions between hostels are organized which include Inferno(sports competition), Takneek(Tech competition) and Galaxy(Cultural competition).The winning Hostel on the basis of the above mentioned competitions win GC(General Championship). Other than these college fests are organized too at much greater levels which include- Antaragini(culutal fest) is organized in October, Techkriti(Techfest) is Organized in March, Udghosh(Sportsfest) is Organized in September. Students contribute alot in the organization of these events. There are thousands of books in library on varoius domains,which students can access. Classrooms are well furnished with boards and projectors. Students can get into varoius extracurricular and sport activities. Admission to IITs is via JEE Advanced. It is given after qualifying JEE Mains. Both JEEMains and Advanced are considered as the toughest engineering entrance examinations so far. Around 10-11 lakh students apply every year for JEEMains and only 2.5-2.6 lakhs become eligible to give JEEAdvanced out of which around 17-18 thousand students get admission into IITs.The criteria to become eligible to give JEEAdvanced is to secure a minimum percentile in JEEMains, the cutoffs for this percentile varies for differemt category individuals. For qualifying JEEAdvanced you also need to clear cutoffs for individual subjects(i.e. Maths, Physics and Chemistry), which is 10% of the total marks for the portion of that particular subject.After clearing JEEAdvanced students are given the relevant branch on the basis of their rank and the choices filled by them during Josaa counselling.
