Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

I chose this course as becoming a Good Renouned Lawyer was my dream. I have taken admission in Surendranath Law College , Sealdah. The college is the oldest Law institute in India. Dr. Rajendra Prasad , first President of India, did his LLB from this institute. The faculty of this college is quite good, They always help each and every student regarding any doubts and other things. If I talk about exams they are hard under Calcutta University but with the guidance of the teachers of this college it was easy to pass the exams

Fees and Financial Aid

As a Government Sponsored Law college, the fee structure is 15k, so a student can't afford it. Also scholarship is provided by the Government of West Bengal, which helps us to study effortlessly without stressing about the fees. Fees Structure : 1st Sem : ?12,000( incl admission charges) 2nd Sem : ?7,500 3rd Sem : ?6499 4th Sem : ?6499 5th Sem : ?6299 6th Sem : ?6299 7th Sem : ?5499 8th Sem : ?5499 9th Sem : ?6799 10th Sem : ?6799

Campus Life

3

Campus size is not good , our law department has a small campus and also most of facilities like Gym, Canteen, NCC etc. are not availble to our law department. Totally dissapointment for the extra curricular activites in our college Fest is not conducted but Annual Function is conducted and it is quite big compared to other colleges , Surendranth has the biggest function when compared with other colleges of Kolkata We have Student's Union in which I am part of. Also our colleges have different Clubs like Music Club, Sports Club, Photography Club, Dance Club and etc

Admission

For getting into any law colleges under Calcutta University, you have to sit for Calcutta University Law Entrance Test(CULET),and for getting chance in Government college you need to have >300 rank (General Category), >1000rank (SC/ST Reservation Quota). After that you will be provided colleges according to your eligibility .

Course Curriculum Overview:

I always had a curiosity to know the truth behind anything I come across and argue till I was satisfied with the explanation provided and also I had a curiosity to know the corporate culture which led me choose this course as it has a mix of both. I'm learning topics and being assessed based on real life problems. The are a bit to early for me. Anyone could easily score well in exams if they are regular and updated with their studies.

Law opens the door to several job prospects and my dream as a child to be a part of the judiciary has influenced me to choose the course. The curriculum prepares definitely prepares me for higher legal studies and have a strong foundation in legal knowledge. SNU needs to improve the quality of faculty they have and there's a long way to improvement. End semester exams are held over a period of every 4-5 months, they conduct MSA in between each semester. The set the papers really tough.

Placement Experience:

NUJS boasts near 100% placements, there is a dedicated Campus Recruitment Committee which has elected student members as well as a Faculty Co-ordinator. Some students get PPOs and therefore they do not sit for Day Zero. Tier 1 and Tier 2 law firms as well as Mncs hire with packages ranging around 14-20 lpa.

Course Curriculum Overview:

The course deals with all aspects of law. It is a five-years integrated course. The syllabus is upto date. Real world application of the syllabus is massive as it prepares us to become lawyers. But the frequency of exam timings is a problem here. We are told that we get 6 months for preparation but in reality, we give exam in just 5 or 4 months gap. I think this is the only con that should be changed.
