IIT Kanpur is the best IIT to get into

If I wanted to get into IIT Kanpur, I had no other option but Earth Sciences, or I had an option of choosing a lower IIT. So I asked some seniors in the same branch, did some research and came to this conclusion that despite of being a bit lower branch, it still has potential to grow and would open up many foreign opportunities for me. As for the faculty, the department courses will begin from the second year so I don't have a first hand experience of their teaching style but as heard from seniors, I've received positive feedback. And for exams in first semester, I would say it's much easier after you get into the IIT, all you require is a bit time management.

Third year students are provided internship opportunities by various companies like quant, goldman sacs, etc.. with stipend extending to even 52 lacs per annum. I do not have much idea about ongoing projects. All I am aware about is that students will be provided an opportunity to participate in projects under professors during summer break.

Fourth year students can sit in campus placements. Due to the ongoing recession the companies visiting and offers made were less comparitively with highest package being around 1.6 cr and average being 24 lakh per annum. I being in a research field want to complete my higher studies before getting placed into jobs.

I feel for the general category students, tution fees is quite high being a government institution, but here students are provided many scholarships based on merit and parental income which balances it out. I myself have received the MCM scholarship in which my tution is fees is waived and i recieve an extra 11,000 annually.

Extra curricular activities are no less here in campus. I myself was a part of 7 of different events, including Antaragini( The biggest cultural fest of the campus). Our library has every book you might need for the course or else. Sports have an immense value here. From frisby to cricket each and every sport holds an equal respect and the college participates in various competitions on a national and international level. All of the clubs here are run by students most popular of which is Vox Populi the campus magazine.

Rooms are much better as compared to any other older IIT. The best thing about hostel is it's food. Majority of students like the food of mess. Hostel fees is also affordable and registration process is explained in JOSAA itself.

I gave JEE mains in 12th class and qualified for JEE Advanced exam, which was to be held in the month of June,2023. My marks were quite satisfactory, considering that I am from a small district in Gurdaspur. After receiving my result I signed up for JOSAA counseling. The whole process is explained over the site. Then I had filled a list of colleges as per my preference order. And according to my rank I got admission in B.S Earth Sciences, IIT Kanpur.
